I will be travelling with my 10 month old overseas for the first time.
Its a 21 hr flight journey . I am very nervous as I will be travelling alone with my baby.
Iwould really appreciate tips and advice as to what all I will be needing during my travel for the baby and also how to make the long journey easier on my baby.

Hi! I grew up overseas and was constantly going back and forth from England to the US--from Germany to the US. And now as a mom--I still have to do it! I'll tell you the first thing to do--get the jitters out of your system. There is nothing to be nervous about! It's all abou time and patience with your daughter/son.

First thing; make sure your child drinks or has a pacifier durning take off and landing. It helps with thier ears popping and cabin pressure.

Next; bring a few toys and books. Also buy a new toy or a new book. Durning the flight give your child one toy at a time. This makes sure he/she will stay occupied and not get bored of the same toys. Every time he/she gets bored with a toy, give them another one. If he/she really acts up give them the new toy.

Another thing; I'm guessing your child is on solids now. If you are buying two ticket, and you child has his/her own seat. I'm pretty sure you can bring on the solids. (With everything that has happened since the last time I've traveled, I don't really know. Call the airline to find out!) Make sure you bring wipes, bibs, (the Pampers Bibsters are nice) and some disposible spoons. It's nice to have everything disposible because you can just toss it and forget about it. Feed your child on a normal schedule.

When it comes to packing your carry on bag for your son/daughter organization is key. You want to have everything be easily accessable. I normally but everything in seperate ziplock bags just so I can reach in an grab everything at once. Diaper changing: pack one diaper and as many wipes as you normally use in one ziplock. That way you just have to pull the bag and do you thing. It also is a handy trash bag! Feeding--put a few wipes, a bibster, the food, and a spoon in a ziplock--it'll make it eaiser.

And lastly--relax. Your child will do great--I'm sure of it. Best of luck to you! Have fun!

--I really didn't mean to write so much!--

Edit to add: Anything, children are easily entertained. Bring a small little toys. Heres an example of the kinds of toys you'd want to bring.

Take along a pacifier and lots of bottles of water. Even if your baby does not use a pacifier, give it to her/him during take-off and landing. The sucking action will make the ears pop, you can try yawning and pop yours when you feel the need, but babys cant and will cry most of the time when this happens. Take books, toys, etc to keep him/her occupied and make sure you dont skimp and buy cheap diapers!!! It is going to be a long flight and you dont want to end up with a little something extra in your lap when it comes time to depart the plane. Some babies will get air sickness, but most wont. Take tons of babywipes just in case. Take powdered formula, to mix into the bottles of water and maybe something crunch to munch on, this will also help the ear pressure regulate. Most importantly, make SURE your baby's vaccinations are up to date. I dont know where your going but there are still cases of smallpox in many foreign countries. Do not let your baby drink any juice or water in a foreign country, some are not filtered properly and can cause sickness. Also, no milk or milk products, as the pasturization process is also different. In places like Canada and Europe it would probably be ok, but I wouldnt chance it, just to be on the safe side. Take plenty of antibacterial hand cleaner, and use it, on yourself and your babys hands, often. It will burn if baby gets it in his/her eyes so hold the hands untill it dries completely. My mom drug us around all over the world when we were little, this is how I know all this stuff. There were 4 of us, I dont know how she did it, but we are all alive today! Good luck and hope your trip is a good one.
