Contact several weathermen and ask them, then contact the National Weather Office and talk to some people there. Most people are more than willing to talk to young people about the approach they should take, what courses they would benefit from, etc. Find out where the National Weather Office recruits from? All those should be part of any students search for the right University program. (Making contacts like these have helped many students I know get summer/permanent jobs)
A quick internet search shows the top schools to be the University of Oklahoma and Mississippi State University

Penn State. My boyfriend went there for Meterology and loved it. He's got a great job now too. Lots of opportunties for grads there.

Join the Air Force or Navy -- excellent education for free and real life experience with purpose and meaning.
If you are smart and have good grades/test scores they will make it worth your while.
