I think you are right. We Red Sox fans reserve the lowest ring in baseball hell for the Yankees and their fans. We taught our toddler to say "Suck" when we say "Yankees." I doubt Yankees fans could be bothered to do that.

It's a rivalry. The players on the Red Sox and Yankees used to hate eachother as much as the fans. Watch any old games and there were fights between these teams almost every game. In then translated to the fans. So it began on the field and slowly seeped into the fans.
Now its more fan based then it is player based. Players get paid millions and don't really care if they win or lose. But the fans are the ones who care, and they will voice their opinion by cheering for their team and booing the opposition.
The reason why it seems, now more than ever, these teams are getting more media coverage and tv time, is because both teams have been good for the past 5-8 years with the Yanks being better from 98-02 and the Sox being better 03-05. Each fan base hates the other. Yanks have more World Series titles so they will always fall back on that. Red Sox will always say the Yanks win because the spend 3 to 4 times more than the average. Either way, it doesn't matter because a ring is only good for a year, and any team can spend the same amount as the Yanks, but they choose not to. They will always hate eachother

I hate the Yankees (and I'm an Angels fan. The Yankee nation better thanking whatever deity you believe in that the Angels missed the playoffs, because it would be a repeat of 2002 and 2005). Everyone hates the Yankees because they have the ability to throw more money at players than most other teams, so they basically buy an All-Star team, then whine and come up with excuses when they don't win (don't deny it, because I even heard it all when I lived in California, before I moved here to Buffalo). It's just irritating that Steinbrenner thinks he runs baseball and is trying to damage the game by loading the talent in a few markets like his where a lot of other teams don't have the resources to compete.

The Red Sox fans hate the Yankees so much because they are the prime example of what is wrong with baseball. At least 2 steroid abusers (Giambi and Sheffield) and an owner who is a convicted felon.
Plus they buy any talented players that they want.

Boston has never forgiven NY for taking the Babe
away from them, bringing all the wins with him.
They just can't let it go.
Even after the supposed "curse" was lifted that
one fluke year that shall remain unmentioned!
Plus, Boston fans know the Yankees are the better
team and they can't stand it.
Just my opinion but I think I'm right.

It's a mutual rivalry and hatred. When you combine years of being rivals with the fact that the Yankees payroll could probably cure World Hunger, it's easy to hate it! LOL
