Yes, it will help....or try intercourse. That usually does the trick.

Dialation doesn't really mean anything. You can be 3 cm dialated for weeks and still go past your due date. I'm 39 weeks and still completely shut ;). Effacemwnt refers to your cervix thinning. Your cervix needs to be 100% thin to deliver. Think of it as like a really thick donut with a very little hole. As the baby's head pushes down that donut gets thinner and thinner, as it spreads out and thins the hole gets larger (dialation). Hopefully that helped. Kind of hard to describe. Walking can help bring the baby's head down putting pressure on your cervix to help it thin and dialate. Sex can help too by bringin on contractions which push the baby down. Also there is a protien in sperm that can help soften the cervix so it thins better. However, none of this really matters until you are actually in labor- your body will then hopefully do most of the work on it's own. And nothing has been proven conclusively to help jump start labor. It is proven that walking can make for an easier labor but this has more to do with being in shape then actually helping dialation.

A full term pregnancy is 40 weeks your baby still has 2-4 more weeks in the over before you need to begin trying to induce labor be walking or any other means...

At 38 weeks you should be having weekly prenatal visits with your Dr. he/she will have done a pelvic exam and will have told you if you are dialatingand /or effacing and how much you are dialated and/or effaced...

Walking will help speed up labor, and can help a stubborn labor.... 2 miles a day is a bit much.... When you are walking, walk with a walking partner (husband, mom, friend, anyone) about every 200 steps stop grasp your walking partners hands so they can help you balance then do 2-3 deep knee bends...

See video for motion ignore guy with the stick all you will be doing is the motion 2- 3 times with your partner helping you balance...

Then continue walking another 200 steps and 2-3 more deep knee bends.. Walking 1/2-1 mile and doing the deep knee bends will help more than walking 2 miles without them ... Just be sure not to over do it.... You want to exercise your muscles not cause them to cramp or strain....

If you don't have a walking partner you can use a hand rail or other secure hand hold for balance just be sure to use something as you do not want to take an undo fall and injure yourself...

Listen to your body it will tell you when to stop...

Don't worry about how dilated you are yet, the baby needs to drop and your water needs to break. Your cervix needs to soften. Although dilating is important, all these other things have to happen too. Make sure you eat before going to the hospital. You won't be able to have anything except ice chips at the hospital until after the baby is born (that's how most hospitals are) and that could be a while. I'd also sit out most of the labor at home where you're more confortable, unless you have complications or want an epidural or some other kind of medication. Good luck and congrats!

Hey its me again like theve all said walking helps but you cant do much until your water breaks so if your not dialated yet thats a good thing dont worry about it until its time to deliver when my mom went into labor she wasnt dialated so they had her walk around the hospital after her water broke it wont help any unless the baby is ready to come out

This is all personal opinion. Everything doesn't work for everyone, trust me, I've been there. I walked until contractions started and still didn't dialate. Relax and enjoy your last few weeks of quite time. If you get really desperate go get a massage and mention to the therapist that you would like her to work on your pressure points for the uterus to help put you into labor. Again, this still might not work.

The baby is telling you that it's not ready to come out of the oven yet. You've still got at least 2 more weeks before you should even be trying - and then, only at your doctors' recommendation.

Babies grow the most in the last month. Don't push too hard before it's ready.

I walked like crazy, and really believe it helped with my second who arrived a week ahead of schedule.

At the same time, I don't think it will make you go into labour if the baby isn't ready. Either way, good for you - getting out and exercising!

Best of Luck!

Apparently, and also through experience, walking is the best thing to do up until you have the baby. It will help you have an easier time delivering the baby, this is a proven fact... Good luck and walk ALOT

When you get to the point you are at you will try anything to get the baby to come on outta there. I think walking, sex..... could possibly help, but I also think that people believe things help just because it's time for it to happen anyway.

Yes it can help because the more you are up the more gravity pulls the baby down causeing you to dialate. WALK WALK WALK. goodluck and congrats
