It is a sealed system. There is no direct way to the radiator. You MUST use GM silicate free (orange) coolant and add it to the surge tank.

The radiator is at the very front behind the grill, it may have two, one for the tranny and one for the engine. Do NOT open it if you have driven the car in the past few hours. ONLY use distilled water mixed with the CORRECT coolant for your car. The radiator cap is a pressure controlling cap, so make sure it is secure when you put it back on, it is easy to find becuase it describes psi levels on the cap. If you don't know what you are doing, find a mechanic and don't cause yourself more trouble than you want.

I can't help you with your question, but I just wanted to say don't feel like a fool. The only stupid question is one not asked. Besides I took my Pathfinder to the dealer to get my back door fixed, it wouldn't open. Well guess what, it don't open when you have the child safety lock on! haha, oh well now I know.

Thats where you fill it. Fill it COLD up to the "MIN" mark. Then when it gets hot it will surge up to the "MAX" mark cuz it will expand.
