Your simple presumptions prevent you from getting an accurate answer.

This is where my personal conflict comes in. My kids and I agree that killing outright is senseless. How can war be justified when a life is taken? I don't think we'll ever come up with an answer to that one. It would be like trying to answer these proverbial questions, "What is life?", "What is love?", etc. Death and killing have been around since life and love; in other words, from the beginning of time. Should death and killing be justified? I don't believe that it should but therein lies *my* opinion. I'm sure others would feel differently, especially if they have loved ones in
Iraq, or know of someone who had an abortion or is sitting on Death Row...
An eye for an eye? Who can say what is right or wrong? No one knows for sure. All you can do is live your life as "good" as you can and hope that others do the same...

Actually, if he were to kill because his family's lives were in danger, he would not be a murderer. But if he is killing for some "slight" to his family, then yes, he would be a murderer. If you can walk away from a situation, and choose not to, then you are choosing to end someone elses life. That is not your choice to make. war is different because you are fighting for a different kind of family. your country.

IF a man is to legitimately kill to protect his family, very few courts would consider him a murderer. Killing just because some one TOLD you somebody else is there to harm your family is being a puppet.

I don't know any former soldiers who consider themselves heroes simple because they killed an enemy. Most don't even want to talk about the subject of killing.

If he is protecting his family that would be justifiable homicide.

It depends on the situation. If his family is being attacked and he kills the attacker then that would be self defense.

I would also consider that a hero.

Killing someone in defense of family would be selfdefense or manslaughter rather than murder.
