I am writing a psychology paper on people's preconceptions & habits as they relate to race & identity. please don't misunderstand this to be racist!

I have observed from personal experience:
1. if a girl is very pretty, people (who ask) are less likely to assume she is Jewish if she has dark features (they may rather think she is Italian, Greek, Spanish, etc.)

2. if a girl is quite plain, or unattractive, (I'm not talking nose here, just in general), she is more likely to be asked if she is Jewish (if she has dark features).

3. I can prove that this is SOMETIMES true because when someone really really pretty is later found out to be Jewish also (not at all saying these 2 things can't sometimes or even often go together), many people will say "really? she doesn't look it."

4. cases of above are: sarah michelle geller, natalie portman, kate hudson or alicia silverstein.

5. i'm not talking about conversions (like elizabeth taylor).

Kate hudson is only half jewish by mother and jews are not held back by whites so....it is just perceived by hypersensitive people to be prejudice. People stereotype each other let alone subhumanoid people.@!!!

It's really hard for me to understand this. I don't see it as that. I have had several female friends thur my life that were Jewish and they didn't seem quite plain, or unattractive in any shape or form. I've never known anyone too have this problem or heard of people talk of such. Personally I have never seen this happen. Maybe it's because of where I live or something. I see Jewish women and girls as beautiful.

so all the girls you mentioned are Jewish? cos when i read the list i was like "really, she doesnt look it" witch was weird cos up until number 4 i was not with you, cos i have never noticed any of that stuff

usually when you think Jewish, you think Fran the Nanny or Janice from Friends the annoying "oh my gawd" one with the horrible laugh - or am i wrong

what i've kind of noticed is that people get their preconceived notions from TV (ie Fran the Nanny) because TV especially comedies use exaggerated stereotypes for humorous effect

and all those girls are never identified as Jewish in the roles they play - i know its stupid to think that just because they dont play Jewish on TV that they are not - but thats how some people think

like they still ask Sean Heyes (Jack from Will and Grace) is he really a flamboyant gay man, when he's obviously not, he just plays one on TV

here's my question: why are jews so wrapped up in the idea that anything about jewishness is significant?

it isn't a religion or a race... so your question is beyond confusing. you acknowledge it when you say you exclude conversions... what is left? there is so little ethnicity left in the description of "semitic"... that distinction should by all rights include syrians and greeks! it did at one point.

i would have thought we would have learned how hard this one is after the germans tried to sort through it. how many generations did it take to prove someone wasn't aryan? this is silly!!

You UNwillingly entice interest from the two sexes. while men and girls look, seem, stare, and then turn around, almost breaking their necks just to study you out. you know you're a stunningly acceptable female, while women human beings get mad or jealous of you for actually NO reason in any respect! once you are able to step out the homestead, with out makeup, messy ponytail, placed on basic finding outfits, and entice greater men than in case you have been glamoured up. and finally.... you know you're a stunningly acceptable female, in case you're greater acceptable on the interior, than OUT!
