1) I am 32 years old and my Mom had toxemia with me, if I were to get pregnant, am I at risk to get toxemia?

2) I am 4'10" and weigh a little over 145 pounds. What is a good weight to get down to before I start trying to get pregnant?

3) My fiancee' is 31 and is 5'10" as I said above I am 4'10" and 32 and I just read that you can have problems if you are small and the baby's father is bigger. Is this true and what kind of problems?

4) How possible is it for me to have twins at my age of 32 - (actually probably more like 33 or 34 at time of pregnancy, and the father's Mom is a twin too, an identical twin). I was just curious. :)

Thanks for any help!!!

Things I felt I should add..

I have searched the internet for things about Toxemia/Pre-Eclampsia and it says that there are risks to get it -- if a mother or sister had it, if it's your first pregnancy, and if you are over 35. I just wanted to ask to confirm what I have read or not. Thanks. Oh also my Mom died of cancer in November 2004 so I can't ask her anything. Thanks.

1.) Any pregnant woman is at risk for toxemia but there are some factors that can elevate this risk such as being overwieght, pre-existing high blood pressure, etc.

2.)4'10" is quite small but I would suggest asking a Dr. or maybe researching online what a healthy weight would be for your height.

3.) I have never heard of problems arising from the mother's and father's size at all.

4.) I don't think your age has anything to do with your likeliness of having twins unless you were getting fertility treatments, but with the father's mom being a twin I'd say your chances are much higher than the average person with no family history of twins.

Good luck!!! ;)

Discuss your concerns about toxemia with your doctor, I don't know if it is something that runs in families. I don't know that there is an ideal weight to get pregnant, but exercising and eating right might help boost your metabolism and regulate your ovulation. (Both times I got pregnant I was on a strict exercise plan and dieting to lose weight.) You might have a baby too big to pass through your pelvic bones, but c-sections are completely safe and are the typical solution if the baby is really big. The baby might not be big though, it might take after you. Twins are possible at any age. Identical twins just happen, but if you end up taking fertility drugs to get pregnant, your chances will go up.

Good luck!

I don't know about #1 and you can just use a BMI calculator to figure out #2.

A friend of mine is 4'9" and her husband was over 6'. She bore her daughter with no undue difficulty. Then again, I know an extremely petite woman whose husband was also very small and they had a 10+ pound baby and an 11+ pound baby. I don't think there's any telling ahead of time how big your baby will be and whether it will cause you any problems.

The occurrance of twins rises in mother over 35. There is a genetic component to fraternal twins, but only on the mother's side; identical twins are not hereditary. Your chances of having twins is probably average.

Toxemia happens not through genetics, it can happen to anyone reguardless of past pregnancies in your family members. Also as long as you are healthy and fit then pregnancy should not be a preoblem. As for the height difference that is a myth and is NOT true. My DH is a foot taller then me, and both of our kids are fine. As for the twins there is a possiblity that you could have twins because there is a set in his or your family. Hope this helps. Goodluck,

1) Not sure.

2) Maybe around 120-125 or so...check out what your weight should be for your BMI.

3) I don't think that will cause any problems, it's not like he's 6'10"!

4) Trust me, you don't want twins! Many complications w/pregnancy and after -- you'll have NO TIME for anything with changing two sets of diapers. Twins run on the mother's side, since she dispenses the egg(s), so if twins don't run in your family, count yourself lucky!

if twins run in both sides of the family, there is a likely possibility of having them yourself.
as to your height, i'm 5'3 and my husband is 6'7. our baby had to be taken out a little early because she was a little on the big side, but that isn't very common.(she was 22in long at birth, i had her several weeks early)
when you have a weight question, your doc should be in the know about it, ask him and he can tell you what the nominal wieght for your height is.
your age shouldn't really be an issue as most people who have children in their 30's are just fine.
the toxemia i can't help you with, but your doctor can.

much luck on your future blessing sweetie!!!

its possible that you can get toxemia even if your mother didnt have it with you theres always a possibility you might get it but unlikely.... if your trying to get pregnant it shouldnt matter what weight you are if your happy with your weight stay with it if not lose weight a safe way expecialy if you are trying to get pregnant you dont want to be using diet pills when trying to get pregnant it could harm the baby.... it doesnt matter what height the father of child is going to be it isnt going cause problems.... yes it is possible you can get twins if it is common in your familly.....

The other three questions I can't help with, but the third one I have personal experience with. My husband is 6'9" and I am 5'3", we have two children and are pregnant with our third. the height would make my husband more than a foot taller, as your husband is. Both of our babies were born with no complications!!!! and our doctor has never mentioned anything about complications that could arise!!

toxemia isn't hereditary it is mainly coused from eating to much salty foods while being pregnant. The more salty foods you eat the more fluid you retain thats what caused it to be so dangerous
