I try to keep candy in my office for myself and visitors. Last week there were hershey miniatures, mini reese's pb cups, and some kit kats.

The last three guys to stop by and get candy, rummaged through the box to get what they wanted. One of the guys ate ALL of one of the candy, even leaving with some in his hand and another left just one of the kind he was eating. I just noticed it, didn't really think much of it.

Someone else came in and asked "do you have any kit kats left" and I said "no, so-and-so came in and took all of them." He said he thought it was rude for someone to take all of one of the candy.

Do you think it's rude to snag all of one thing from someone who is offering up freely? Or if someone is taking candy for free, should they just take what they get and be happy? Weigh in on it... curious about how others feel.

I totally understand where you're coming from on this. I too have candy out on my desk and never mind when the guys come in and get some. There was one guy in particular that liked a certain kind and he would pour out all the candy and take all the ones he liked. I put a stop to that immediately but in a nice way. I used to pull out a few of his favorites and put them to the side just for him to make sure he got some but left some for the other guys that came in. Then there was this lady that came in off the street to get an application and she brought her kids with her. You know what happened with that, they all stuck their hands in and pulled out handfuls of candy and she didn't say a word to them. I politely asked them to put it back and just get a few pieces which they did but they would come by every day after that just to get candy. I stopped putting out candy for a while til they stopped coming in. I think it's rude to use someone's nice gesture as an excuse to be a pig. When the guys complain about the variety of candy or that there's not enough of this or that, I remind them that I pay for it out of my own pocket but that they're welcome to leave money and I will stock whatever they like. Sometimes you just have to put people in their places. I just happen to think it's friendly for people to walk in and see a smiling face and a big bowl of candy. But the fact that you bought it gives you the right to say something when someone does that. It is rude and inconsiderate to you not just other people.

I dont see anything wrong with taking the kind of candy you want... I think the person that was looking for kit kats just said that because they were mad they didn't get any.

In addition I'd just like to say that the corporate world needs more people like you. We have a 'candy lady' in my office, but she's way down on the other side of the hallway...by the time i get there I'll be less interested in candy and more interested in water or gatorade.

I think it's inappropriate. Just because it's free doesn't mean you can hoard all of it. I think that it's rude and people should have better manners. But that's just how I feel. If I go to the bank or an office of some sort, they'll give out free candy, and I'll take a couple pieces for my daughter and I. I won't take a handful and then shove some in my mouth. That wouldn't be considerate, seeing as the candy was left out for everyone, not just me. ^.~

Yeah I think that is improper ettitquite for someone to take more than two or three peices of candy... that is pretty rude... I would have been a little upset if someone took ALL of one kind of candy I had out there for everyone.

I think it's rude to take all of one thing but I also think it's rude for people to be treating you like your a candy store. At least that's the impression I'm getting from what you've said.

I think that is very rude
people should be pleased that they have been offered candy NOT TRY AND TAKE THE WHOLE GROUP OF ONE TYPE. when people offer me candy i take what they give me and i certainly DON'T TAKE MORE or ask for MORE
well there's my opinion

It depends how many there were to begin with. If there were three or less, then no, it's no big deal. 4-6 is maybe a little inconsiderate. Any more than that, and yes, it's completely rude.

I think it was pretty rude. If someone has a bowl of candy out for people, you should just take one. If you want more than one, go to the *********** store and buy it yourself.

if some 1 is nice enough to have a snack out you should be courteous enough to only take 1 or 2 pieces & by all means not be chousie or greedy that is just rude & crude
