Always mount the contactor with the top up. and run the power into the top side. and out the bottom to then load.

basically same as a three [phase contactor. usually live goes opposite live and neutral to neutral. there is usually a drawing on the contactor

err... in the live side? if single pole. Presumably it's double pole in which case live and neutral.

Not much of an answer but I guess we need more info in the question to do better.
