It was canceled. There was a rumor that Showtime was going to pick it up, but then Michael Hurwitz (creator) announced he wasn't going to make the show anymore. There is a new rumor of a movie, but that might be a joke in reference to the end of the last episode.

Fox canceled the show.

Cable tv channel Showtime was interested in picking up "Arrested Development" -- and a deal was nearly in place for 44 episodes over the next two years -- when creator/showrunner Mitchell Hurwitz decided that he was burned out and did not want to continue working on the series.

Without his input, the deal fell apart.

All three seasons (55 total episodes) are available on DVD.

I agree. in case you have abode windows Media center you could watch the comprehensive series on line. i think of it grew to become into canceled by way of fact it grew to become into purely too darn humorous and clever for the undemanding FOX viewer.

Yes it did. The critics loved it but no one watched. I enjoyed it. Check out "The Office" on NBC Thursdays.
