You would not realize any extra value by installing crown molding. So many people make the mistake of adding "personal taste" things when selling a house. I once did over $30,000 worth of these things to a client's house only to have the buyer hire me to change most of them. Wasted money.

Honestly you real estate rep should be able to firmly answer your question. But take into consideration how updated your home is. Crown molding typically looks better in newer houses or houses that are suited for it. If your is lacking updates and may be gutted by potential buyers save your money. consider this if you were the buyer would crown molding make a positive difference to your home? If not save your money or invest it in your new home.

Depends... is it common in your area, or would your house stand out from the competition? I just added crown molding to my house, only for our own pleasure though, and think it made the rooms look much nicer but wouldn't have done it and invested the money and time just for selling the house. I think general condition of the house and structure (roof, windows, flooring, appliances, cleanliness etc.) is more important. Moldings are decorative.

If you can diy. Lumber cost maybe up right now, also. Do your main rooms, living, den and master if anything. It does add appeal and does not necessairly add a lot of $$ value, but it is considered an upgrade. I have seen lately that some people are doing only 2 strips on a triple crown moulding finish. They are painting the "middle" area between the top and bottom strip(the same color) to give the illusion of triple moulding, but without the cost involved. It works!!

In my specific area, specific, it does upload fee. That suggestions comes from the abode appraisers that appraise my new abode shape. I even have discovered that crown molding provides fee whilst further to the residing factors, kitchen/eating, and the main mattress room/bathing room. On 8 to 9 foot ceilings, i take advantage of a minimum of a 4 a million/4" crown and for taller ceilings i take advantage of a 5 a million/2" crown molding.
