i have 4 yrs of experience in Retail, and about 1 and a half in the BPO industry as HR. Now I am at a stage where I dont want to experiment too often, and would like to settle with one of the careers. As both these fields are doing well as career choices of today, can somebody help we weigh out the better choice amongst the two?

HR pros:

- generally a more secure job
- job variety within HR:
payroll; hiring policies;
- fulfilment if genuine staff training exists for the company
- you are processing the hiring and firing, and eventually firing and firing
- field priviledges ranging from "excursions" to getting headsup on restructing
- leaving BPO to become independent hiring consultants doing the research and headhunting, if that's your forte
- part of human capital management
- HR is usually a smaller department, which is a downside in itself of less job opportunites in sofar as it is a victim further up the chain of economic supply and demand

Retail management
- the sky could be your limit
- task variety
- the zeal for uncertain opportunites, conversely job security, look at the present oil market on how it affects consumer spending
- front line retail to purchasing, merchandise display, product costing, consumer trends,
- front line retail for the young
- in a competitive environment, you have to move up the chain for job security which also means more wages
