His birth weight was 6.1 pounds. Now at 7 months he weighs only 15 pounds. I have been breastfeeding him. Started solids @ 5 1/2 months. Please give suggestions what can i do to help him put on more fat...he is very skinny. What foods can provide him more fats and proteins? what else can i do?

Though the doc said he is fine..he also added that he is in the lowest percentile of weight gain. His height gain is fine. I do give him multi-grain cereal, banana, sweet potatoes, pears, beans, applesauce and carrots. I have to give him special formula(similac alimentum) beacuse of his eczema & colic

He can still fit in his 3-6 months clothes. All the clothes i buy are so loose on him. They fit him ok length wise but r very loose on his waist.

You should check with his doctor to see if that's a normal weight for him. It's seems normal to me. You shouldn't try to overfeed your baby because it can make him sick. Talk to his pediatrician & have him/her suggest something. Good luck!

Is there a reason why you're worried?
I'd talk to your Doctor before overfeeding the baby.

My little girl was 7 lbs 7 1/2 oz at birth and is only about 17 lbs now (at just over 9 1/2 months.)

She still fits nearly all her 3-month clothes... and is just starting to get too TALL for them, but all her 6-month pants are too big for her waist and fall off all day long.

Her Ped is not at all worried though and says she's gaining weight and growing properly/normally.

Are you still breastfeeding? I am not a professional but my own opinion is that you may want to start supplementing with formula as well as breast milk. Solids are good too, try the rice cereal and veggies, I would ask your pediatrician what they suggest, Maybe he is just a tiny guy. Has he grown height wise? He was tiny at birth so he may just continue to be tiny.. if your doctor says not to be concerned then I would not worry. Good luck.

Sounds like he's doing good to me. If your doctor isn't concerned then you shouldn't be either. My 6 month old only weighed 14lbs 7.8oz at his last checkup, but he's fine.

The baby is supposed to double their birth weight with in the first 6 months, which for your baby would be 12lbs 2oz, and then 1lb each month afterwards, which would mean at 7 months your baby should weight approximaly 13lbs 2oz, so sounds like he's doing good to me.

Also DO NOT supplement with formula! Breastmilk is so much better and you're doing such a GREAT job breastfeeding for 7 months already.

Don't try to make the baby fat! Just allow baby to eat as he feels. If he has an appetite and eats well 3-4 meals a day plus bottle, and is active, alert and happy...he is WELL.

If he acts "hungry" a lot, he needs more food, thicker foods (not so runny) such as cereals with banana, egg yolk mixed into his veggie puree, and so on. Allow baby to have a bottle available so he/she can have it anytime.

You are teaching them what and how to eat, so if you overfeed him now, he will be overweight over-eater when he is older, and that is not good.

First , contact your doctor and see if his weight is normally . My daughter is 5mths and 15 pounds and she has been on cereal since she was 3days olda nd her weight is just fine. My friend baby was 4 mths and 18 pounds and was only on formula, so every baby is different. Check with the babys doctor and see what they recommend. He may be skinny to you but normally on the charts. If anything you can try oatmeal cereal in his bottles.

Some babies are just skinny. There are babies at the top of the precentages and ones at the end. It's all good.

Have you tried avocado? That's a good healthy fat for your son to eat. Also, nurse him whenever he wants, even if it doesn't jive with your schedule. Until at least 12 months, breastmilk (or formula) should be his main source of calories.

I don't think it's necessarily what percentile he's in, but whether or not his growth remains constant. For example, if he was in the 50th percentile at birth, then at his one month visit he was in the 20th, then at his two month visit he was in the 75th, then at his four month visit he's back down to the 10th, THAT is bad. As long as your pediatrician seems to think he's healthy, I wouldn't worry about it.

Talk to the doctor if you haven't already. Maybe you should try putting him on some organic formula. I have read that many mothers have good luck with this.

If this doesn't cause an alarm with your doctor then I wouldn't worry about it. What are you and your husbands body types??? I know with my son he is on the short size and he needs smaller pants and bigger tops...just like me and his father do.

I wouldn't be too concerned unless your doctor thinks it needs to be further accessed.
