i am currently an RN student, and i am taking everything one day at a time. my question is based merely on curiosity and not really a solid plan yet. once in a while i think of going for a master's degree in nursing so that i could be a nurse practitioner... but once in a while, i also think of entering med school (if possible) and i want to be a cardiologist.

the question is, assuming that i now have a master's degree and i am currently working as a nurse practitioner -- if i suddenly decide to enter med school, how far along would i be from becoming a cardiologist? like how many years more? -- that including the master's degree. do i start all over again?

Four years of medical school,

Three years of an Internal Medicine residency,

at least one year of a cardiology fellowship.

Skip the nurse practitioner route. If you want to practice medicine be a Physician or a Physician Assistant. If you want to know why, e-mail me.

you should paintings in a lab and be a clinical Laboratory Technologist which takes a B.S or B.A in technology (between different issues) or you should do what i'm doing and be a clinical Laboratory Technician it really is an affiliate degree application. The technician works on the area of the technologist and does lab testing. Pay relies upon on the position you stay.

You would have to go to school about 3 years. Then you would have to do your intership. I'm a R.N. and know a nurse practioner who basicly had to go through school the full amount of time, just like a doctor would.
