When you download games see when it asks to save where do you wanted to be, underneath there should be a box at the bottom asking you file to save as which category. You should select normal. But if you computer can't do that then you have to go under the zip folder and launch the game. If it won't work try and restart your computer.

I like Winrar because it's a very good program to compress/decompress files in many different formats. You could also use other programs like 7zip or winzip for the same purpose but I think Winrar is the best option avalable. The funcionalities are pretty much the same for each program (you basically do everything with a simple right-click of your mouse) but Winrar is by far the best option.
The things I like about winrar is that it opens a bunch of compressed formats: .zip, .rar, .7z / 7zip, .iso, .tar, .jar etc. (much more than the other programs) and that it's 100% (trial period never expired so you can use it for free with no limitations)
These are the reasons why I recommend Winrar.

What operating system are you using?
XP has zip features built in, just double click.
Try the free download of winzip or winrar for older an older os.
I'm not sure what to use on a mac.

not 100% sure but try this, right click on the zip file and click on extract all and move all the contents to your desktop srry if dat doesenyt work , there is software {free i think} on the internet called winrar or somthing like that that wll automaticaly un-zip the file 4 u :))))

you'll need a program like 'winzip' or 'pkunzip' to unzip the files
you can get them from http://www.tucows.com
you will have several files. the one to run the game will be a .exe file. (for example 'settlers.exe').
be careful. viruses can come in exe files. make sure you know exactley what you are downloading and make sure you know who sent it to you

zip file will self extract and then you install the file (game) and play it

If you can get them zipped, you should be able to unzip them, right click the file and there should be unzip!
