on friday i went to the dr and was 2 cm 50%. all weekend i was having cramps, contractions, i was natious, i had loose bowel movements, some were very watery, and every time i walked i would have sharp shooting pains in my vagina...im just wondering how normal all this is and if it is any kind of indication of some realistic timeframe i am looking at now. i am 37 weeks and measuring big...i am scheduled for an ultrasound tomorrow to get an idea how big he is. if these new symptoms are an indication of labor coming soon is there anything effective i can do to move it along a little faster...and if its not any sort of indication is there anything i can do to alleviate some of the more uncomfortable symptoms such as the shooting pain and the feeling like i am going to throw up all the time??

I would call the doctor or go to the hospital. It sounds like you're in labor, especially since the pain continues when you walk around and change positions.

A woman's vagina is meant to stretch in the tissue there to accomodate most penis size. The average is reported to be 6-7" in length when erect. I would say that your being a virgin prior to this and his being possibly eager to do it then made it feel more unpleasant or painful. You need to find how to relax best prior to this if you choose to repeat it and be SURE to have reliable birth control too. Not fun having pain from sex initially but even less fun trying to push a baby out of that area later. I would not rush back into it, find ways to relax first and if you continue to have pain after another time or 2 later I'd talk to an ob/gyn as they can examine and see if there is a physical problem in that area for you that is interferring with that later on. It should improve soon.

I am experiencing the EXACT same thing too. I will be 38 weeks tomorrow. i am the same amount dialated and effaced and get the shooting pain in the vaginal region while standing. I too see my doctor tomorrow. I wish us both luck. I am soooo ready for this baby to be born, He is over 8 pounds already according to the ultrasound.I have also been having contractions for a few weeks along with the nausea and diarrea. At my 37 week check up i measued 42cm so I guess I could say I measure big as well.

Lots of squatting will guide the baby to move down farther, I suggest using an excercise ball to releave some of the pressure/pain in your vagina/bottom region but it sounds like you're really close to going into full labor especially that you feel nauseated...your body knows something is going to be happening and soon.

I had a very hard time while I was in labor. I was in labor and expierienced the same symptoms. The only thing that really helped me was I filled the bath tub with warm water and lyed in it untill it was to cold for me. I couldnt feel the contractions or the sharp pains in the water. I literally stayed in the tub for 3 days straight. You should try it hun and good luck... email me and let me know if it worked for you...

We had a similar question here yesterday. The pains are from your cervix. You are 50% effaced, but your cervix may still be a bit hard and posterior (facing back). As your babies head rubs against those ultra sensitive nerves in your cervix, you can get shooting pains that I feel are almost worse than some contractions! Your body is showing amazing signs that it is eliminating your bowels for labour. It does this, because when you are in labour your whole digestive system slows down. Your uterus needs any extra blood for the work ahead,
My best advice would first be to relax. Your body produces oxytocin to stimulate contractions. When you are nervous, you release adrenaline which slows oxytocin production. Take a warm bath and do some nipple stimulation. Roll the ball of your nipple between your fingers for a half hour, take a break, do it again. You may get some strong contractions with it so take it easy. Go for a walk. Do some lunges, with one laeg on a chair and leaning in, alternating legs, go sit backwards on your toilet to open up your pelvis and give yourself a belly rub. If you are ready it will happen, if not, it is great prep work. Most of all, eat lightly, drink tons and rest. Relax through early labour and use distraction. You are doing great!

If you can, walk a lot that'll help you to have your baby quicker, but it sounds to me that you're already in labor, congratulations.

You should call your doctor, it sounds like you are in labor. To move it along faster, I would walk, I know it hurts but that is what helped me during my labor. Good luck!
