There should be a level of trust between parent & an 8 year old , so that when you tell the child there is no truth to nonsense -they should believe you . Simply state the facts and don't feed into it if she prefers to believe what you told her is not true . Sometimes our reaction to their reaction keeps this stuff going . Good luck .

lol yeah it is a scary thought. i get scared too and i'm already 19... i know that bloody mary isnt real but just the thought that i DID think at SOME POINT in my life that bloody mary was going to kill me or something still gives me the chills.
You can take one of the advices below and go in the bathroom with her and chant bloody mary 10 times with the lights off.. OR she can stay outside while YOU do it.. at least THEN it won't be scary for her
or you can just go to websites where they tell you it's not real even though she won't believe it. It takes time

Dress up in the most gory Bloody Mary costum you can find, scare your daughter when the lights are out, take off your mask and say: "See? No need to be afraid. Mommy is Bloody Mary."

Unfortunately even if you tell her it's an urban legend she will still need time to process it all and I can tell you from my own experience that it will "take time"...perhaps you should let her sleep with you for a couple of days..or sleep in her room to comfort er.

as a child i was scared of bloody mary too....no matter how hard i tried tho i couldn't seem to get her to come out of the mirror...go with her to a mirror and chant bloody mary 10 times with the lights out...this may give you both the eeebie jeebies, but it will also prove to your child that Bloody Mary is not real.

Is she getting this stuff from home? Typical, 8 yr olds, do not engage in that sort of conversation. Why don't you take a plastic bat into where ever she says that they are coming out of, and start playing like you've fought or wrestled with them, then jump out tired and victorious. Tell her that if they try and come out to get you, you'll get them??!

Get a copy of Snow White and read it to her. Then ask her if she thinks this is real. By her answer talk her though it. Why do you believe this or don't believe that. Help her with her fear as well as help her learn how to reason thing through.

Or you can follow pritty_princess_c's advice but have someone in a costume jump out and scare the crap out of her.
EDIT
Here is a funny clip found on myspace's videos

DOES SHE NOT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MAKE BELIEVE AND TRUTH...AKA NON FICTION? I HAD THIS HAPPEN JUST LAST YEAR WITH MY DAUGHTER WHO WAS ALSO 8 YRS OLD AT THE TIME. ALL THE TERRIBLE SCARY STORIES AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR JUST TO SCARE OTHERS. YOU JUST SIT HER DOWN AND DISCUSS IT AND REASSURE HER. IF PRAYING WOULD HELP, THAT IS WHAT WE DID.
