The way I understand it, Yahoo deems a note spam based on the complaints of many, many customers, so while you may flag it as spam, not enough others do. Also, spammers change their e-mail address so often and so quickly that the ISPs can't keep up.
Here's a tip, NEVER unsubscribe unless you know and trust the company. Unsubscribing simply tells an unscrupulous spammer that your e-mail is good and they'll either keep using it, sell it to other spammers or both.

Once your email address is on a spammers list it is almost impossible to get off. Right now, your e-mail address (along with millions of others) is on a CD being sold from the back rooms of software shops from Bangladesh to Botswanna and from Norway to the Netherlands.
However there are several things that you can do to prevent even more spam.
1. Start by removing your e-mail address from your Yahoo profile,if it is on it. The spam-industry has programs that are continusously crawling the web looking for the "@" symbol which is a sure sign the the word before it and the domain name after it is an e-mail address!
2. Use a longer address. The spam industry uses programs that try sending e-mail to all known domain names. Example: a program might start trying to send out e-mails to everyone starting with aaaaa@INVALID.com and continue down to zzzzz@INVALID.com. Using a longer e-mail address will make this harder to do.
3. Never click the "Unsubscribe Link" in any e-mail. This will only confirm to the spammers that your e-mail address is indeed real and that you are reading their garbage. In fact, do not even open any e-mail from anybody you don't know or trust. Many spams are not only annoying but contain viruses of other malware. Just delete 'em without opening 'em!.
You can however click that "Unsubscribe Me" button from businesses that are well known and that you trust. Walmart... yes. Someone selling Viagra...no.
4. Open up a second e-mail account. Whenever, a website requires you to register using your e mail address, use this secondary address. There are many unscrupulous websites that will sell you address to others or bombard you with spam themselves.
5. Download a free copy of SiteAdvisor. SiteAdvisor will alert you when you search (Google, Yahoo, MSN, search only) of websites that are known to send out spam. This can help you avoid registering with any sites that are known to spam people.

Treat your e-mail address just like you would your telephone number or home address....only give it out to those that you absolutely trust!

Never Unsubscribe spam. That only confirms your email address to the spammer. The Spam control feature in Yahoo mail is not a one time thing. You must teach it to recognize a particular spammers emails. This can require several times of clicking the spam button to educate the Spam filter on the server.
Yahoo Help has much information on dealing with spam. It is not Yahoos job to stop your spam. You did the things necessary for spammers to get your email address and is your responsibility to deal with your spam. Yahoo provides the Spam filters as a customer service.
By paying for the Mail Plus you get the AddressGard feature that allow you to make and use 10 disposable email address. When you use these instead of your main address and spam starts comming to them, simply delete the address affected and make a new one. This feature alone is worth $20 a year.

If you unsubscribe you're only confirming it's a valid email address. NEVER UNSUBSCRIBE!!!! If you do you'll get 10 times more spam than you do now. Just keep marking them as spam and more will eventually get blocked.

I don't think the yahoo antispam feature is all that effective. But I do want to warn you that if you reply to each unwanted email and try to unsubscribe, it will guarantee that you will continue to get more spam from the very same originator. (By replying, you confirm that you exist.) Best advice is to just DELETE, and forget about it.

Go visit www.spammotel.com. If you sign up there you can get "throw-away" email addresses. That way when you sign up for something you can give them a "throw-away" email address. All of your "throw-away" email addresses can be forwarded to your regular email address. When you start getting spam to one of your "throw-away" addresses just delete it at www.spammotel.com. It is wonderful.
