To me naming the child the same as another family member is confusing to the child and others because you constantly have to say no not you your dad or no not you your son. Ha Ha especially if they are in trouble. Can be irritating.I feel it is best to use a grandparents middle name or someone that is passed on in rememberence to them. But above all it is your choice. Look up some names and find the meanings that helps too.

call him something different -- use terry as the middle name - I know way too many people who name their son after the father, you can't call out just the first name when they get older without both answering - then you start adding ie's on the end of the name, example Paul & Paulie, Gord & Gordie - the ie will eventually NOT want to be called with the baby ie on the end as they get older

I agree with many of the answers above. I think giving your child the exact same name as the father might cause trouble and be frustrating, resulting in an altered nickname which you might not like, so think about that (not that there's any thing wrong with this name, it is wonderful). I think the name should be your own personal choice and if you'd like to get ideas go here:

I think this is the best baby names site online, its well orginized and has all info ideas and advice you need...
Good luck!

I wouldnt name him after the father, maybe after a grandfather/brother/uncle, or just think of an original name.
I've added a site to help your decision

How about Junior? or JR. My brother's name is Howard Randall (last name) and his son is Howard Randall (lastname) Junior, and we just call him J.R.
