a cow will charge your butt. And I understand that's not the safest feeling in the world.

Yes, cows get scared and do bolt and run through fences. When corner I seen them jump fences over 5 feet high. In fact I just had one break out 3 nights and go two miles down the road. They can be dangerous animals, I hear of at least one death in state I live every year from cows, especially if they have young or a bull considers you a threat.

Cows jump, kick, run from you, run at you or just stand there and look at you. It generally depends on what you DON'T want them to do. LOL Our cows are not afraid of me, but when they have calves on them, they are really protective and I still have to watch them. The best way to handle cattle is quietly and slowly. I used to push calves into the chute at branding time and the best way to keep from getting kicked is to quietly walk around them, grab them by the tail and get your pelvic area touching their butt; pull their tail towards their head and go. The closer you stand to a calf, the least chance of getting kicked you have. (Think of it this way...if someone held their fist back from your shoulder about a foot and punched you it would hurt a lot more than if they held their fist an inch away you). Different cattle react in different ways too, it depends on the breed and how they have been handled. We got some cows in last spring that had always been herded with four wheelers. When we tried to move them on horseback, they freaked and circled the trap (a very small pasture) about three times before we got them settled down to go where we wanted them to go. Cows seem to be quiet, gentle animals, but they are still prey animals with the same fight or flight mentality as other prey animals.

Yes!!!! I always thought that cows were such serene calm animals! That is until I went to pick up hay at a nearby farm with my aunt. The barn was full of cows in a large pen. I somehow startled a calf and the rest of the cows freaked out and started jumping out of the pen! The pen walls were about 5 feet high! They moved must quicker than I thought they could!!!

Some are as sweet as lambs, And some will try to kill you for looking their way. All according to the breed and how they are handled when they're raised. When a cow is scared, reactions differ. Some will run, some will stand their ground. They react very quickly, and it's hard to outrun one in a foot race. Believe me!!.

When a cow gets worked up, it can move very quickly. It can jump, kick, and really hurt you if you are foolish enough to get in its way.
