are these engines supesed to be slow like can't pass a civic slow?
this engine is in a old 93 grand prix with 4 speed auto.

In the gen2 3.1 those one of the best pontiac motor in its day and they had plenty of power. It might be an issue of how many miles are on it, it might just be worn out

My 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix, with the 3.1, blew the doors off a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant, a 2003 Saturn Ion, and any number of other cars. Although a Corvette showed me its tail-lights rather quickly once. ;-)

These engines are pretty powerful for what they are! They have a lot of torque! There is probaly some thing wrong with your car! you should be able to spank the civic expecally if the civic is auto!

3.1 engines are pretty slow but not a bad engine. could be worse. you could have a 3.4

THEY ARE A GOOD ENGINE IN A CRAPPY CAR, MOST LIKELY IT IS YOUR TRANSMITION AND NOT THE ENGINE, GRAND PRIX'S THAT AGE MOSTLY ALWAYS HAVE TRANSMISION PROBLEMS.

yo u may have a cat converter plugging up or fuel filter restricted .Ck these things first
