Has this happened to you or anyone you know? I am so bummed out, first baby and we really wanted to know. Will another ultrasound be done again anytime soon?

They could not tell our baby's sex at our 20 week either... legs all in the way... they do ultrasounds usually only if there is a problem after that, but you may have a really nice doctor who is willing to look for you, or you can always have a 4D ultrasound done somewhere else. We found out at 24 weeks through a different ultrasound.

Good luck, and hope you get what you want :-)

I was told by the ultrasound tech that both my children was shy when it came to the ultrasound due to the fact you could see the baby's legs open until you tried to get a closer look, then the baby would close her legs! The ultrasound tech told me that every time she has seem a baby do that the baby turned out to be a girl!! Both mine are girls!! You could ask you dr to send you for another ultrasound in a few weeks. Some doctors will and some wont it all depends on the doctor! The Doctor I had both times had me going every other week for a while then every week until we was able to tell what the baby was. Please remember ultrasounds cost alot and some insurance company's will only pay for up to 4 the whole 9 months unless your doctor thinks something might be wrong with the baby.

This happened to me before where it was just impossible to tell due to the position the baby was in when they were doing the ultrasound. If the baby isn't "cooperating" during the procedure it can be very difficult because they sometimes cannot get the baby to move into a position that will give them a definite answer as to the baby's sex. I think too that depending on how good the equipment is and the willingness of the technician to help you determine the sex of the baby also factors into it. Sometimes the technicians only spend a moment or two trying to find out the sex for you because it isn't really what they are concerned about when they are doing the ultrasound....I can tell you that girls are usually harder to determine the sex of than boys....

Depending on your OB-GYN you may or may not have another ultrasound done. It usually depends on if you are experiencing any complications or if they want to recheck the size of the baby prior to delivery as happened once in my case (even though they got it very wrong!)....

When I had the ultrasound for my son, it was very obvious. As far as another ultrasound goes, some doctors only do 1 or 2. If you really want to know the sex, you may want to check out one of those 3-d ultrasound places. They have lots of packages in different price ranges. Some even offer a small package to parents who just want to know the sex. Just type in 3-d or 4-d ultrasound into a search engine and you should get plenty of results. Good luck.

I have not had it happen to me personally, but they couldn't tell for sure what my sister was having because the baby kept her legs crossed during the ultrasound. With my child during the first ultrasound the umbilical cord was between her legs so we couldn't tell. We had a 4 d ultrasound done the other day and you could tell. My ob does two ultrasounds one at 20 weeks and one at around 32 weeks to check the babys weight.

yes, this happened to me not once, but three times. The first time, the umbilical cord was in the way. The second time, she was in a breech position. The third time, she had her legs crossed. Finally, on the fourth time, they found it. I thought, my lord, how many ways are there to hide in there!? :)

You could ask about another ultrasound. Different doctors do things differently. I had a friend who had a "gender scan" that definitely told the gender for sure. I am not sure exactly what it is or how to get it, but it is different from an ultrasound. Hope you get to find out soon. I know how frustrating it can be.

Sometimes the baby is in a position where you cant tell the sex. Unfortunately your doctor may not order another ultrasound, seeing that you are half way through your pregnancy. You can request one to find out the sex of your baby, but I am pretty sure that you have to pay for it. You should contact your doctor for more information about that. Good luck and congratulations!

I was told that they were unable to determine the sex of the baby until 24 weeks. I suggest you get a 3D ultrasound done as they will guarentee the sex of the baby at 26 weeks. You also get to leave with a DVD of the ultrasound as well as pictures!!

No, not unless you have some complications as it is believed that too many ultrasounds are not good for the baby.

I guess you will have to wait uinless you can find someone who will do an ultrasound with an added cost - ofcourse as insurance will not cover it.

Also check with your doc - but best is to be assured that you have a good pregnancy and a healthy baby - gender is a minor issue!

Yes, had this happen once. Yes, it is disappointing when you are expecting to find out!

Whether they do another ultrasound or not will depend on your doctor and your insurance coverage. Let your doctor know you are very interested in another one if at all possible, it may help your chances, or may not. If they do one at all, it will probably not be for awhile, like at least 28 weeks. Until then, have fun guessing, you will know soon enough! :)
