Definately yes! I'm a Sakura/Cherry Blossom nutter - every spring I grab my camera and head to many different places to see where they are blooming.
Blooming can take place as early as mid-March (the 18th or 19th) or as late as early April depending on the weather. If you are fortunate to get a mild spring, the blossom can stay up almost a month but typically it's a week to two weeks. I like the ending part the best as the blossoms drift down like snowflakes.
There are several times of blossoms. There are the weeping willow types that bloom early and are often a deeper pink.
The Somei-Yoshino are the classic quintessential Sakura. These are the most planted cherry trees. When they bloom they give whole areas turn into a pink landscape. They are often found in large numbers at temples, shrines, parks, along the roadside and castles. These are the blossoms that people gather under for hanami parties.
The Yaezakura is a later-blooming blossom. While not as densely planted as somei-yoshino trees, these are lovely as well. The blossom was more petals and looks more like a flower.
Some good places to check out Sakura:
*Yoshino in Kansai area. The blossoms create a carpet of pink on the hillside of this mountain town - its also a touris trap.
In Kyoto:
the Philosopher's Path from Ginkaku-ji (Silver Pavilion) to Nanzen Temple.
*Kiyomizudera Temple - they light this up at night
In Tokyo:
*Chidorigafuchi the old outer moat of Edo Castle
*Yasakuni Shrine
*Shinjuku Gyoen/Park
*Aoyama Cemetary
In Tohoku
*Kakunodate
*Hirosaki Castle
Hokkaido
*Hakkodate
Basically there are lots of please to view the blossoms. They bloom first in the South in March and early to mid May in Hakkaido.
Weekends will be supercrowded as will the evenings in the hotspots. Book accomodations in advance and try going out more during the week.

Blooming time depends on where you are(live).
Japan Meteological Agency or each prefectural / municipal government office announces the flowering date of Sakura tree everyyear.
In Tokyo, the best time is March 25 - April 7. (bloom only 2 weeks!)
But in the northern place, for example Hokkaido prefecture, the annoucement was released on May 10 this year. Probably the best season would be from the middle to the end of May.

Cherry Blossoms are very beautiful and springtime is wonderful time to visit Japan. In my opinion, it is the best time to see Japan.
They bloom anytime from March to April. It gets warmer in the south first, so Kyushu will have them first and they slowly bloom their way north all the way to Hokkaido. You can see them all over Japan. Many Japanese, and foriegners like me, go visit parks during Cherry Blossom season with friends and family. Picnics are popular. People even just site and have a beer and enjoy the atmosphere.
