My husband and I live in Las Vegas, Nevada but all of our family is from the south and as sounthern as you can get. We have a confederate flag license plate and we fly our confederate flag from the pourch. I was wondering how others saw this. We have been getting some prety hateful looks over it. We are flying to represent the south. Don't get me wrong, this might be pretty offensive to some but we are crackers and don't associate with the black community. And our family in the south are very racist. But the main reason for flying our flag is because we are proud of our southern background. How do you feel about the flag? In your opinion should we take it down? Just wanted some input.

It's a free country and contrary to the way they have written history the Civil War was not first and foremost about slavery. It was about economics and state's rights. Slavery was but a part of the overall issues. Fly it and be proud.

I think you should take it down. The confederate flag represents slavery which was a horrible time in the USA that we should be ashamed of. You can be proud of your southern backround but you don't have to use a flag that was a symbol of hatred towards a ceratain group. I have family from the south but they don't fly a confederate flag. That flag represents something bad. The US flag would be better to fly because it represents the whole US and not when we were split apart and fighting.

I say keep it up. It is looked as bad by only those that don't know it's true meaning. I'm a Ga girl and darn proud to be from the south. I know our flag was taken down because it offended someone, well I sure don't get to tell people to take their flags down that aren't from the US. and they all offend me. None of them are flying the American flag, just ones from another country

well, it's your right to fly whatever flag you want. if you wanted to fly the Iraqi flag, that's your choice, too. however, knowing that it's your right to do so, you also have realized that it's offensive to some. if the glares and name-calling don't bother you...fly on. many black people consider the confederate flag to be a reminder of slavery....and for good reason. i'm white, and i can understand that. but, it can also be flown because you're proud to be southern. most people who are offended by it don't give a damn what your reasoning is...and if you don't mind the looks, keep it flying.

ok when I first read the question, my first thought was to tell you to go back home. lol, whatever are you dioing in LV>??????!?!?? Ok, fly whatever flag you wish... I am 1/2 cherokee 1/2 irish, and I fly no flag..personal reasons. But I will tell you this: the hateful looks you will get ( i lived in SLC for many, many years) is because most ppl in that part of the country aren't racist, and they see the Southern ppl as ignorant, backwoods, racist, inhospitable ppl. Alot of black ppl reside in LV,and they will give you rude looks, maybe even do something bad to you/your car. I would take it down,to be safe.... but fly what flag u will,as the first amendment says u can.

The Confederate flag means different things to different people. By identifying with it, you will send various messages to various people, depending on their beliefs. You are doing it to make a statement, but others will interpret it differently than how you might mean it.

Why not just fly the Stars and Stripes? The American flag should do just fine if you want to celebrate your heritage and pride!

I think you have the right to fly the flag if you want, but I certainly understand why people have a problem with it. It may not symbolize it to you or others or the majority, but there are some that are offended and I think thier feelings should be considered.

I really don't care - it doesn't bug me at all. There's not much you can do about it anyway so I just leave you alone. Good luck sticking to your flag!
