...in the Classifieds, for a job that I am qualified for, and the person answering the phone told me he had just placed the ad for feelers, to see what kind of response he would get, but that he really had no openings at this time. To place an ad in the paper for a job you have no opening for, just to see who will reply, is WAY far beyond my comprehension. What do you think?

Okay...to clarify...
We did not discuss my qualifications at all, nor did we discuss his job needs. I asked about the job, as instructed in the ad, and he said he had placed the ad for feelers only, that he really had no openings. so, it was NOT a matter of "you're not who we're looking for", or the position has been filled.

Sounds like he's wasting his time (and yours) - Maybe the company should place an ad to fill his job. Go for it Persnickety!

That seems pretty lame to me. Why waste everyone's time if they don't even have any openings. I hate looking for a job, it's got to be one of the worst things ever!! I would rather have a root canal than have to go on a job interview!

What a complete tool. I agree with your impression 100%, to waste people's time like that is only an indicator of a very poor and frustrating boss. Note I didn't say "leader, " because as I previously said, he's tool.

I would be angry and would have given him a piece of my mind for giving me false hope! How rude! What a waste of your time. I'm sorry, hon. Good luck on the job hunt!

Probably someone starting a business, and they have no clue about what type of salaries to offer, perks expected, etc.
This is sad, but, unfortunately, somewhat common.

I think that is pretty awful. I equate that to placing a personal ad if you aren't available.

Seems a bit of a waste of money.
