It could be a number of things. Betta don't gestate or anything like that. The eggs are squesed out of the female and fertiled right then and there. As long as the male isn't being really aggressive toward the female you can always wait a bit.

1)He is not big enough to fit around her, and squeze the eggs out.

2)They aren't doing it right. 1st timers will often take a couple of trys.

3)She isn't healthy and doesn't have any eggs. Did you feed both bettas a high protien diet for a week or more.

PS- You might want to read up on the subject a bit. Be sure you've got a good breeding setup, food for the fry, and can manage 100+ baby betta.

The bettas will engage in the spawning embrace a few times before any eggs come out. The spawning period varies but if no eggs show up by the next day then remove her and then try again in a week or so. If she dropped her eggs it will be obvious for the constantly fall and the male just picks them up and puts them back in the nest.

The eggs are small but can easily be seen, even in the bubble nest. Since they aren't hurting each other wait 24 hours and then remove the female, condition her with lots of different feed for a couple of weeks and try again.
