Any non-nutritious chemical that you intake during pregnancy has the POTENTIAL to cause cellular mutation or damage. While there's no conclusive proof that melted plastic will cause birth defects, It's always wise to take extreme precautions when you're expecting a child.
Remember that the decisions you make now can help shape your baby's life. It's always better to err on the side of caution than to be wrong and see the consequences.

The only thing I've heard about that is that nobody should heat food in the microwave in plastic because the plastic can get into the food and may cause cancer. The thing about the two sexes seems pretty far out there. I would like to know her source of info.
I've also heard it's not good to stand near a microwave in use while pregnant. Never knew exactly why, but I would always walk away from it after I started it. Better to be safe, then sorry.

it sounds really wierd...but if it isn't a microwave safe plastic container...and might be melted a bit by the heat, you may not notice and some of the plastic chemicals could get into the food but i think no matter what you are safe...i've never heard of the two sexes though...this to me is a deformation of you and the males genes...not from eating microwaved food...but i'm not a scientist so who knows....you can't always believe what you see on tv, read in books, or even hear from a doctor so just remember that if anything!! :) good luck w/ the baby and God bless!

That sounds like a myth to me but none the less you shouldnt heat plastic containers in the microwave unless they say they are microwave safe as the plastic releases toxins into your food during heating. It's best not to do it for the health of you and the baby.

It does sound like another one of those things that gets passed around that arent true.
However, with that said, the way a microwave works to heat things up so quickly is by getting the molicules going really fast and it does change their structure. It does pick up some of the molicules from the plastic it is wrapped in and it does lose a lot of its vitamins and other healthy parts.
So keep that in mind when you heat up something in a microwave. And if the loss of health to the food doesnt stick with you, at least try and use something that is not plastic to heat it up. It is better for you.

I highly doubt that would happen from eating food out of plastic containers.
My doctor told me that so many people will tell you all kinds of things while you are pregnant and most of them are going to be wrong! Yes there are some things that women should avoid eating but look how many of our mothers carried perfectly healthy babies not knowing what we know now?
I wouldn't worry about this one!

What? Never heard of that. I have heard that plastic wrap in the microwave can cause cancer/leukemia something like that, which I think is a bunch of crap.
Mom is just trying to help. Just eat healthy, don't drink, don't smoke, exercise. Good luck on baby.

NO way i have two kids and i ate what i wanted to eat and ate out of what i wanted to eat out of and that never happen that can not cause that. the only thing that cause babies harm is smoking some drugs and if some genes are messed up and you can not help genes. Just eat normal and do not stress over stuff like that you see on tv not everything people say on tv is true. Go by what has been proven and what your doc says.
CONGRATS and GOOD LUCK

Ummm I don't believe so...I have had 3 children and ate plenty of things heated in the microwave in plastic containers. All 3 of them are perfectly healthy and normal so I think whatever your mom saw is pretty far out there...Good luck with your new little one!!

i agree with a lot of things that they say like smoking ect but i also think that if we took everything these people (them not your mum) say as gospel we would not eat at all as so much is considered bad for you. everything in moderation i say and eat what you think is good for you and some of what you enjoy babies need nutrients from real food so possibly food in plastic containers that you microwave isnt the best choice more because of the amount of salt they contain enjoy your pregnancy x
