y = 5x - 7
1.) the slope of a line is defined as rise/run...in otherwords how many up divided by how many over. If the line moves up as it travels from left to right, then slope is positive...if the line moves down then slope is negative. You are starting out with an equation...so you know already that the slope is positive. In a linear equation the number attached to the "x" is your slope. In this case 5x is your slope. "But I thought i had to divide 'rise' by 'run'?" Well the equation has done that for you already. Since 5 is a whole number it is represented as +5/1. So this line will move up 5 points before it will move right 1 point.
2.) the y-intercept is the point at which x=0. Simply plug that into your equation.
y = 5(0) - 7
5 times zero is zero so that leaves you with...]
y = -7
so the line crosses the Y axis at point -7
so slope = 5/1
and y = -7

once you have y=mx+b the place m is the slope and b is the y intercept what you may do is make the "x" = 0 and remedy from there. So: y = 5(0) - 7 y = 0 - 7 y = -7 m=5 and b=-7=y and x=0 So a slope of five delivers x=0 and y=-7; (0,=-7) A. desire this enables!!

The slope is 5 over 1. That means you go up 5 units on the "y" coordinate and 1 on the "x" coordinate.
The "y" interception is when "y" equals 0, so x=7/5.

Slope is 5 and the y-intercept (the point where the line crosses the y-axis) is negative 7. This equation is in slope/intercept format of y=mx+b
