Make sure the company you buy from is reputable and that they use a secure server. I use Paypal and it is secure. It really is only as secure as you are though so make sure your password is mixed with letters and numbers and isn't easy for someone to guess. If you aren't sure then call the company and pay over phone. Take care. You can also have a card that you only use for online purchases. Many companies have that now.

As long as you're careful. To quote some information I pulled together for our library internet users:
a) Think about the same issues when shopping on the Web as you would in other situations, for example, use companies that you know about or which have been recommended to you.
b) Make sure the website you are using is a “secure” site. Most sites will identify themselves as secure for purchasing, and there may also be a padlock symbol shown on the task bar at the bottom of the screen. A secure site encrypts all your details (such as name and address and of course credit card information) so that only the recipient site can read them.
c) Non-secure sites can usually be identified by a message box telling you that you are entering a non-secure site and asking if you want to continue. It is best to be wary of these, but it is always your decision whether to proceed with the transaction or not.
d) The Office of Fair Trading has produced some useful guidance about buying on the web. It can be found in the Online Shopping section of their website (see below)

I work for a financial institution, and recommend people not to be afraid to use their credit card online, but there is always the risk that your card number might be compromised. Many financial institutions, mine included, have fraud detection alerts in place, which allow us to stop many fradulent transactions from ocurring. I'd say give it a try, and if anything does post fradulently, notify your financial institution immediately. In almost every case, you'll get your money back, and pass the loss onto the financial institution. However, if you're paranoid, maybe you're better off not doing it.

Yes. Just make sure the site has secure payment facilities (look for the padlock on any page you give credit card details on).
Also remember to check your credit card statements every month to ensure there are no unauthorised payments

I have done so many times. It helps that my bank (Lloyds TSB) have great on-line shopping protection. But if your bank doesn't offer that, use Paypal and always be sure to look for the padlock symbol on screen.
Also, only buy from companies that you know of, such as amazon.
God, I sound like an advertisement for 2 different companies here! I'm not - its just my experience!!!!

Provided you buy from reputable companies like Amazon for instance you are okay. When it comes to paying for something online, make sure the web address says https which means they have secure online payment facilities. Paypal is also a good way to pay. Investigate thoroughly and make sure you understand what you are doing before you buy.

Yes, as long as you are sensible. Only buy from reputable companies and always check for the padlock symbol at the bottom right of the screen.
