If I need them, pretty slow.

If they need me, before I know it.

I wouldn't take any chances if I were you.

Start running now.

Forget your friends, forget your family; I'm sure they'll understand that you had to disappear forever.

Until they have to bail you out a couple days from now.

I don't know much about real life. But I DO KNOW television. And after watching COPS my whole life, I can tell you this: they probably don't show the episodes where the dudes get away.

I hope this helps in your desperate, frantic run from the law.

I wonder if this means I could be considered as aiding and abetting. I can't believe you would drag me into this. Why are you doing this????

Police respond to calls depending on priority. Life over property and in progress over lapsed. If you are calling about an assault that you see happening and someone else is calling in about waking up and finding that their tires have been slashed, then the police will obviously respond to the assault first.

Response time also depends on how large of an area they have to patrol and how many officers there are. If this is a problem, try going to a city counsel meeting and request they hire more officers or give them a pay raise to attract more officers to the town.

And last, the response time depends on any crisis that may currently be going on. You may be seeing an assault in progress, but all the officers are tied up on a man with a gun at your local middle school.

One last thought. There is a delay from the time you give the dispatcher the call, the dispatcher gives the officer the call, and the officer gets across town. Remember officers have to obey traffic laws too. Each police department has different sets of rules governing their use of lights and sirens. My department only allows us to use them if a life may depend on it, or in a vehicle pursuit. So if it is 5 o'clock rush hour, and you are calling and complaining about someone egging your house, it may take some time.

I've never had to deal with a bad situation, but I did have a confused elderly lady wander up to our house at 0530 one morning a year ago. She planted herself on the front porch and made herself at home.

She didn't know her name, wasn't quite sure why she was at our house, but was very pleasant. Since it was so early in the morning and I wasn't quite sure what to do about a rogue senile (Alzheimer's?) little old lady, I called 911. I offered her coffee and donuts, and the police were there (two cars!) in about ten minutes. She seemed a bit embarrassed about the whole thing. The police were very nice. A year later she showed up again, on the porch, same place. When I called the police this time, they had a record of where she lived, and took her home.

There are many factors ...What you are calling about ..(faster for man with a gun, than for a car parked near a hydrant) how busy the police are (if your nearest police car is on another job ... they send a police car from another area) and lastly how well the dispatch person (9-11) describes to your police car what you reported on the phone...

I live in a pretty mixed neighborhood and it has taken about 15 to 20 minutes, which seems o.k. concidering how long it takes for other people to get them to show up.

ha one time I called 911 here because someone had been in my house. all that happened was an officer talked to me on the phone and basically told me I was lying -- they never even came out to take a look.
