Actually there are many sources of information on your home. You can find out who lived there by consulting census bureau records and property tax records at the county assessor's office. If your home is old, the local historical society will most likely have information as to who built and lived in the home. Your insurance agent may have information as to claims that may have been made by prior residents (floods, fire, death, etc.) Many local newspapers keep archives and you may be able to do a search of your address to determine whether social events (weddings, for example) or crimes (police blotter) were connected to your address. Your cities permit office is also a wealth of information as they can tell you when your home was built, by whom and whether additions or permits were pulled and when. I have always left a "house book" where I've lived telling future residents anything I knew about the house, changes I made to it and about our family. I usually put it either in the attic or basement, so look around maybe the past owner of your home did, too.

For history such as you want I would try the local newspaper or library, who may have copies, if not computerized at least on microfiche.
