You *can* use a taper to go from 14 to 4ga, but you *will* tear the skin...bad, bad, horribly BAD idea. You *can* cut your finger off with a butter knife...same principle here.
If it seems safe to do it that way, you've been reading the wrong things by the wrong people. Instead of getting opinions (and on Yahoo Answers, there are a LOT of bad ones), talk to people who do this for a living....go to a piercing shop.
If you're going to jump gauges, they're likely to tell you one of two things.
1) Don't...it will cause too much pain and damage to the skin of your ear. Do it one size at a time and allow it to adjust.
2) If you *must* have instant gratification, using a scalpel is necessary to minimize the trauma. It makes a clean cut (skin *will* be broken by either means), the cut goes with the direction best suited for the stretch (a jump that big with a taper will just rip the skin at the weakest point...not necessarily the best), and while being messy, will heal the best.

yes you can use tapers... but dont use a 4g right away. i was just like you.. i was at a 14g and i wanted to go bigger, so i bought a taper set. i started at a 14g, bought a taper for a 12g, then a 10g, and so on. but if you got your ears peirced with a regular gun, your ears are probiablly a 20g or 18g, so buy the right taper size. and dont force a whole new gauge at once... go slowly! buy the straight tapers too.. they work the best! good luck!

I don't think I would try a taper to stretch it quickly, it could cause your hole to rip. You are going to have to be patient and do it the right way. If you have any concerns see your local peircing shop...a real one, not one of those joints in the mall. The most important thing is cleanliness and safety...you don't want to harm your body by being reckless!

I wouldn't do it yourself, from 14g to 4g is a big step. The people at the piercing shops know how to do it so I reccomend going there. If you do it yourself, you need to do it slowly over a period of days, stretching a little each day.

You say you need professional help, and yet you're asking strangers on Yahoo? Even if some of the people on here were professionals, how would you know? Of course, since you're into mutilating your body, I guess it wouldn't matter a lot to you.
