leave some half egg shells out where they are moving around, they will still be in them in the morning after taking their fill on the egg residue, often you will find they come in through air grates.
Try salt where they are coming in as they won't go through it!!

Probally from under the floor boards or any little crevises around the house, ie: where a waste pipe enters the house, or through any gaps around doors, only needs to be milimeters and they can get in.
Try making sure theres no vegetation around the outside of the house, drainage gravell will attract them. Try picking any up you see and put them in a jar of vinegar, that will put them too sleep for a very long time ::
Sounds like the house needs some refurbishment....
There a tricky thing to get rid of, slug pellets kill hedghogs which are the natural predetor of slugs, hence the increase in slugs and snails over recent years. Thanks a lot middle england !
Good luck *:)

The best way to to drive the slugs from the house. This is accomplished most easily by buying a very large stereo system and then play Rap "songs" 24/7 at full volume for about three weeks. Guaranateed that the slugs will leave.
Most likely, the neighbors will as well, but what the hey?

you need to find the opening in which they are entering the house. then you need to put down the salt. there is no way to kill a slug humanly as you say. they do not really have a brain thus i don't think they feel pain, at least not like you and i. i get slugs at any time of year in my house, and my house is not damp. slug can enter a house through the tiniest of openings. so any where there is an opening place salt there. this should help. also you can place a plastic milk jugs with water outside of her home around the house, these seems to attract snails and slugs, then you can pick them off of the jugs and dispose of them as you find them.

If she is elderly then she definately needs to have someone fix the moisture problem. She can try to get a de-humidifier, but if that doesnt work she needs to have some remodeling done to get rid of the moisture or move. If her house is moist all the time, then slugs are the least of her worries. She needs to have the place checked for mold ASAP.

Can you follow the trails to see where they go? It doesn't sound good to me. Maybe someone from the local council can come round and take a look. Meanwhile definitely use the slug pellets. Or she could get a pet frog to eat them.

Get slug repellent SAS from a pest control man, it is harmless to other pets, and dosen`t smell or anything. It puts them off, they hate it (the slugs), also, check her walls have no gaps behind the sink etc. They could be coming in through there.
