I got my tongue peirced 4 weeks ago. About 3/4 days ago, I noticed that under my tongue, theres like a growth? Im not sure how to describe it. Its feels firm/rubbery , and its a clearish/ lt.green color. There isant any puss, or anything leaking or any taste, or any soreness at all. I noticed this morning that its starting on the top of my tongue by the opening too. The one on the bottom is at the hole opening, and is kinda growing around the bar, and its a little smaller than the ball itself, in size. It's kinda hard to explain. For about the past week and a half, I'll admit, Ive been slacking on the mouthwashing after every time I eat or drink (I dont smoke so thats not an issue) now Im afraid its infected. Anyone out there know what I should do? I dont want to take it out!

Start using the mouth wash again. This could just be your tongue healing itself. Remember it's not used to having a something pushed in the middle of it. If it does not go away, go back to the place where you got it pierced and see if they have any suggestions for you. You can also gargle with salt water.

Sometimes piercings don't work for everyone. I had my tongue pierced for 6 years and never had any problems. This growth you have doesn't sound good. Keep using the mouth wash several times a day, maybe even go back to the piercer and see what they think. If it doesn't go away though, the only way to take care if it is to take the piercing out. It sounds like your body is rejecting the piercing. So unless you like the bumps you may have to take it out. But no matter how cool the piercing looks, those bumps are definitely not cool.

Just talk to the shop where you had it done. Hearsay from any random poster will only make you confused...as you can see, there are as many conflicting answers as there are posters.

From your description, it sounds like you may be able to lance the "growth" and let it drain...sounds nasty, but beats letting it fester. Have some *diluted* listerine to rinse the nastiness out. What's important is to dilute your listerine 50/50 with distilled water so that it's not so harsh. Also, rinsing 10 times a day can be excessive. The general symptom associated with infection will be pain and swelling (though not guaranteed) so infection wouldn't be my first guess. However, when we can't see it, it's hard to say for sure.

Again, being able to see it, which your piercer can do that we cannot, is key to solving the problem and making you happy and healthy. Go...quickly...NOW!!!

You do know that you are supposed to wash your mouth out when you eat, and I hope that you haven't been eating any dairy. You're supposed to stay away from dairy, milk, ice cream for at least 12 weeks plus have you been doing any extracurricular activities since you've had your tongue pierced, huh???? You need to stay away from that for 12 weeks too. Start washing your tongue out, brushing the tongue, rotate the bar too, lift your tongue up, and take the bottom of the bar and move it up and down. But honestly, green color when your tongue is supposed to be a pinkish/red color, take it out, You would rather keep your tongue than have it cut out due to it being infected wouldn't you.

You definitely need to keep the area clean. I'd go to the place where you got it pierced and have them look at it or just give them a call and tell them what you have noticed and ask if it's normal. They should be able to give you more peace of mind than anyone here. Good luck.

Most likely its infected. Keep using the mouth wash. My friend got her tongue peirced and hers rusted the ball underneath her tongue and they had to cut it off she was not happy about that so be careful.

First I think that is disgusting, the mere fact of piercing your body parts other than your ears.

But this should help heal it. 3 % hydorgen peroxide, gently brush and mouthwash with it two or three times a day. Do not neglect the care or you will definetely be at the Doctors shortly.

yeh start back up on your listerine regimine...but rinse out no less than 10 times a day for about a week. they make mini mouth wash bottles, so there's no excuse to always have a travel size bottle on you. jut refill it when you get back home.

first off your decision to pierce your tongue and my opinion a stupid thing to do since tongue piercings damage teeth.

second the tongue is most likely reacting to the bar that is in your mouth meaning you may be allergic to the metal its made from and most likely causing an infection.

go to the doctor first then the pierce shop. they need to refund your money and do something to correct the problem

Ashley - those things never heal. You really have to take care of it, or you will have to take it out and if you do it will immediately start to close and you don't want that. See your doctor. You may need antibiotics
