There are a couple of things that conspiracy theoriests point to as evidence. One is that Unocal and some other oil companies wanted to build a pipeline across Afganistan. But with the Taliban in power, it was not allowed. So starting a war to remove the Taliban could have resulted in large profits for Big Oil. Conspiracy theorists like to point out that Unocal was at the time a Gore family owned company. They also point out that jet fuel would not melt steel. But steel starts to deform long before it reaches its melting point. Also the metal alloy aircraft fuselages are made from burn very hot once ignition point is reached. The worst case scenario is that US government officials may have known the attack was coming, but there is no evidence pointing to this. It is very unlikely that anyone in our government had anything to do with the 911 attacks as it would have been political suicide. Treason against the US also carries the death penalty.
