The stains are grayish/blackish kinda like sticky or gooey. We do not use any fabric softner just Tide detergent. I researching on the epinion threads and so far I have seen that most of the people there have had stains on clothes.

There are multiple long threads on problems with Kenmore Elite washers and driers on a consumer Web site called Epinions. These include questions and answers about stains, as well as operational questions. Take a look at the link below.

The stains you're seeing are probably oil from the transmission of the washer. Have a professional come in and check your washing machine for any leakage.

Do you use liquid laundry soap? It could just be a build up of soap, much like ring around the bathtub. I would try cleaning it with any soap scum cleaner.

I dried an entire pack of gum (thanks to my daughter) and had to use a razor blade to scrape it out.
