My wife works six days a week and is usually very tired on most of these days. I want to surprise her for a romantic night out, dinner, then to a hotel, that sort of thing. I want it to be a surprise, but I am worried with her schedule I will wind up springing this on her one day when she is beat. Any suggestions on how to avoid this? My though is to call her work and request off a day for her, without telling her, but the animal shelter she works at is really short handed, I am not sure that is a good idea. Any advice of feedback is appreciated.

She is off on Thursdays and I work. Wednesday night would be better since she would sleep in, but I am a teacher and taking off a weekday is a major undertaking, in addition to costing me a day's pay.

don't worry about surprising her when she is beat; when a woman gets a thoughtful surprise from her lovely husband at the end of a stressful day, her energy level usually cranks up unexpectedly. tiredness is relative.

i think it's a good idea, like you said, to sign her out of work in advance without telling her. then get the two of you to do something that reverses her tiredness. spa and massage is a great option, or drive out to the countryside for a leisurely walk. if you have the whole day off then you can do that in the daytime, so that leaves room in the evening for a special dinner date at her favourite restaurant and something both of you enjoy, like opera or drama if you're into that, bowling or go-karting if you're more into the sporty stuff, or whatever. finishing the night at the hotel would be perfect because that gets her mind off her usual stress and focused on being with you. drop a bottle of champagne or a set for chocolate fondue beforehand at the hotel so that it's there in your room when you check in.

good luck!

Since she is so busy, plan something minor with her. Tell her you want to have a date night. Tell her something small, like going out to a movie or comedy club, then make her breakfast in bed in the morning. Make sure that overnight and the morning are available! Then you can plan the big stuff once you know she is available. You might call the shelter where she works and arrange for your wife to leave a couple hours early, you can pick her up and begin the outing. That way she won't be as tired:) One last idea...book her some time at a spa the afternoon of your grand plans. She will be relaxed and feel like a million bucks!

I hope this helps!

It's very sweet of you to think of the plans that you have, but if your beloved's exhaustion is a significant cause for concern, perhaps the best course of action is to modify your plans so they work even if she is exhausted!

Go ahead and reserve the hotel room. Try scouting the online hotel-rating websites to find one with really comfy beds, and if you can afford it, try to get a room that has a whirlpool tub in it. Then, instead of taking her out for a romantic dinner, bring her straight to the hotel room and order in - or depending on your timing, hit a favorite restaurant with curbside to-go service and bring her favorite meal with you.

Sit down to a lovely dinner. You probably wouldn't be able to burn candles in the room and get away with it, but who knows, maybe you have some battery-powered "candles" in with your holiday decorations. Then draw her a nice hot whirlpool bath to help her unwind (rose petals or essential oils are great things to add; if you have bubble bath, only use a TEENY bit - trust me!) and maybe give her a rubdown if she wants one afterward. And if she's too tired to do anything else after that, don't let that bother you. That may or may not be the hardest part of this whole evening - I don't know you well enough to say - but I'm pretty sure that particular gesture would be appreciated and remembered for later. =)

that's is so sweet that you want to do that for your wife but don't.

cook the dinner yourself. the food network website have a lot of simple but good recipes that anyone can make. you may wanna look for any recipes made by Rachel ray. she has great meals to prepare in only 30 minutes!!!!

take your wife to the living room and string up the lights with the white Xmas lights and the best romantic music you can find, make a CD, and there is your dancing.

after all that, make her a the best bubble bath with rose petals EVER! have a chilled bottle of champagne waiting as well. DO NT GET CHEESY WITH THE SILK SHEETS!

get the Egyptian cotton kind with like 400 to 500 thread count.....THEY ARE SO FREAKIN SOFT...also with rose petals.

just rub her down with he best scented oil that you can find. lay a towel down first on the bed so you wont stain the sheets.

you have done everything you wanted without leaving your house. that way if she is tired she wont have to worry about getting dressed, doing her hair or make up. just take her in as she is and treat her like a princess.

there need to be more guys out there like you.....good luck

p.s. talk to her boss or supervisor that you want to make this a special evening for her so that she wont be too tired when she comes home. I hope really hope this works for you.

For my parents 25th anniversary, we called my Dad's work and spoke to his boss and got him the time off without him knowing it, so we could send them away for a few days. They even put him on the schedule so he would not ask why his name was left off. It was great. If they value your wife at all they will be excited to be in on the planning and give her the day off. I would defianately contact her boss. And what a great guy you are, you have a lucky wife! Have fun!

Pick the seventh day she doesn't work. To surprise her and take her to that hotel. And don't let her lift a finger. Treat her like a goddess!!

WHY DON'T YOU PLAN SOMETHING ON HER DAY OFF. IF THAT WON'T WORK, MAYBE ONE DAY YOU COULD LEAVE WORK EARLY GO HOME, COOK DINNER, RUN HER A NICE WARM BUBBLE BATH WITH ROSE PEDALS, WASH AND DRY HER AND WHEN YOU GET DONE WITH THE BATH LAY HER DOWN AND GIVE HER A NICE MASSAGE ON THE BED UNTIL SHE GOES TO SLEEP. GOOD LUCK. OH AND DON'T FORGET THE CANDLES TOO.

You could give her a "pepperoni" or a "strawberry swirl" but seeing how I really don't know what either one of those things are....maybe that really isn't such a good idea after.
