You'll need to conned the two computers through a device called a hub. These have become really simple and cheap -- I bought one a year ago for $10. Connect each laptop to the hub with an Ethernet cable and you have an instant network.
As the other person said, you will need to go into your network settings on each computer to share folders. Once you do this, you can be on computer A and read the hard drive on computer B. It's neat!

Buy a network hub and two CAT5 cables. connect them together and they work. Don't forget to share the folders you need.
