My doctor said that quitting smoking cold turkey is bad for the baby because it causes a type of shock, he said I should significantly cut down and totally quit in the next two weeks, does anyone have any suggestions?

Yeah, I know stop smoking, but I'm asking how, sorry if I didn't make that clear before, but I'm looking for suggestions and alternatives.

Your baby is NOT going to die if you quit cold turkey, despite what that idiot posted up there! The doctors are probably more concerned about the depression that can occur from quitting cold turkey than the result of cutting yourself off from a harmful substance. If you can keep a strong healthy attitude about quitting, there is no shock from withdrawal, and that's a fact jack. Read Allen Carr's Easy Way To Quit Smoking, and you'll find an entirely new way to think about smoking, like the fact that you aren't really addicted at all.

I am a seasoned smoker. But I have had two girls, and am pregnant with a boy. and between each pregnancy, I have started smoking again. But I have quite cold turkey every time. I have not had any problems with it. I am 20 weeks preg and quite the second I found out, and I will not ever be starting again.
if you google: pregnancy and smoking there will be a million links to look at. Here is one.

Here's what I've learned through observation....I have had friends who found out they were pregnant and quit "cold turkey" and the baby was fine. I've had friends who found out they were pregnant and cut back gradually and the baby was fine. And, I've had friends who found out they were pregnant and kept right on smoking and the baby was fine.
I think that if you are able to stop smoking that would be great, however you are able to do it. Good Luck!!

Go to whyquit.com. There is also a support group that might be able to help you is called smokeawaysupport.com. Even if you don't use there product you can join the group. I quit smoking with smokeaway 2.5 years ago, but I don't think you can take this stuff when you are pregnant. Good luck with you quit.

I quit cold turkey. Think about that baby, that should be enough to make you quit cold turkey. I don't think the baby will go in "shock". That was a dumb *** comment from your doctor.
