Ive seen ads etc. about laser jamming systems (which seem to be expensive) and plate covers that can stop them. and of course radar detectors all say they detect them. is their any reliable way to avoid the lidar guns? and do the detectors only alert u when your car has been targeted and its too late?

If you buy a top of the line radar detector it will work with radar signal prefectly, but laser is a different story. All good radar/laser detectors will alert laser 99.9% of the time you are being targeted. Now the only detector that could give you a possible alert that the car in front of you is being shot with laser is the Valentine 1 which is considered by many to be the best radar/laser detector available. the added detection capability makes the V1 false laser alert on occasion.

In plan and simple theory a radar/laser detector is not just good enough protection UNLESS you car is a dark color, has flip down head lights and no front plate, and if it does you use both VEIL Stealth Coating and a LaserShield plate cover. Otherwise you need a jammer.

Now as for working laser jammers there are about 4 I can recommend that I have seen work,
1. Blinder Xtreme M20/M40
2. Escort Zr3
3. Anti-Laser
4. Laser Protector Park

These jammers only alert when your car is being targeted and they jam the laser giving you time to slow down and then turn off the jammer so the cop can get your speed.

Radar detectors are not Cop detectors they only detector cops when they are operating radar. When using a radar detector you need to have a car ahead of you cause the cop will most likely flip on his radar to get the car in .2miles ahead of you and that would set off your detector for you to slow down.

Jammers are not illegal in too many states. They are illegal in OK, MN, CO, VA, CA, NE, UT, and Washington, D.C....BUT cop really have no clue about jammers and they wouldn't know what to do. PLUS the Anti-Laser and Laser Protector Park are both "parking sensors" so that could be your excuse if you are pulled over for jamming him. The big thing though is to slow down to the posted speed limit and turn the jammer off so the cop can gtet a speed reading on you and he'll be none the wiser..

Cops are trained to aim at the front licence palte cause that is the easiest place to get a speed reading off of and most don't aim at the headlights eventhought they were taught to do that if they don't get a speed on the licence plate.. For your headlights use VEIL Stealth Coating and then it would be harder for him to get a reading from your lights

Jammers are illegal anywhere in the US. They operate on the same freq. as radar which is regulated by the FCC, unless you work for a police agency you are prohibited from using those frequencies.

The V1 from valentine is the best radar detector you can get, however I will say this. When used properly radar is not turned on until the officer has already started a tracking history of your vehicle. Meaning the officer is looking at your car because you are passing people, or come over a bump and the car rises up off the ground. So by the time the radar detector goes off, odds are you have already been spotted and your speed estimated. In Ohio at least you don't have to use radar to write a citation anyway.

And LIDAR will get you every time before the alert goes off. The detector will only work if you are being targeted. So basically the signal takes .4 seconds to alert the officer to your speed, your detector goes off at the same time. But by that point your speed is already locked into the LIDAR.

My advice, save your money and watch the brake lights in front of you.

All the detector does is just tell you when to pull over.

The license plate cover is a joke. Cops target the passenger side headlamp with the laser. They adapted quickly when the plate covers came out. Can't really alter the headlamps without running the chance of getting a ticket (or at least a long discussion) for altered safety equipment.

The jammers do work. They are expensive, and in most states becoming illegal.

the radar detectors work to a certian extent , but they do get set off for no reason quite a bit , they tend to pick up stray radio frequency waves and the go off as if a cop were working radar ner by ............. they work but it isnt a sure fire thing and cops are trickyier nowdays , they sit behind bushes and trees thus making your rqadar detector useless untill you have passed the obstruction thus making it too late for all intensive pourposes .........good luck
