Oh i hate those things - they upset me. Seems to be lots of them around at the mo. Just try not opening doors or windows at night when you've got a light on, as this attracts them. Asda sell Citronella repellants which insects apparently hate the smell of. Not sure how well they work though. Just try wafting it out the back door with a tea towel.........

Not easy once they've hatched other than use insecticide or turn all the lights off! Best way is to kill the larvae before they hatch by treating your lawn with an insecticide. This will also prevent the larvae from eating the roots of your grass and killing it. Of course if you don't have a garden, or you have neighbours nearby this doesn't help much. If you keep the doors and windows closed and turn an outside light on you won't get so many indoors.

Chase them around the room and splat with a fly swat, but not so hard it makes a mess on the wall. Quite a tricky technique actually. Also general fly spray is pretty effective. We have so many rows in our house because "people" leave the windows open and the light on - might as well have a big "Welcome" sign. I know it's not logical to hate them, but they give me the creeps and I can't cope when they flutter around in the house. Can just about cope outside now, but they still make me jump if they pop up from the grass.

OMG HATE the little gritters I get one husband to be "killer" and he never kills them just puts them back outside. I keep the door and window shut and if open light off. Dethlax is a good quick killing spray however they are born and bred outside so there is nothing inside you can put down to stop them.
1: An Arnie person who does not mind exterminating.
2: Keep light off when door or window is open.
3: You can buy a net to put over door and windows to prevent moths and these leggy things coming in.
4: Pray for winter as they do not come then.

When it's dark, leave a window open in the porch(or some other small place) and a light on. No idea how many will be attracted! Amazing! Anyway, then you spray in some fly spray and close the door. Almost instant death! A quick hoover and ta-da!!
Repeat as necessary. Very satisfying! Better than trying to chase them.

daddy long legs come from the leather jackets which eat the roots of your grass in early spring, which gives it the bad hungry colour.leather-jackets look like Beatles they are near the top of the soil in your lawn if you look in spring but if you spray your lawn with an insecticide in autumn and early spring it drives them down deep in the soil and then they don't come to the surface to hatch. sorry cant help now but this is more for next year, the insecticide will drive them out and away from your house.

While I realize they are a bit creepy, Daddy Long Legs are one of the best spiders to have around as they eat mosquitos. So...... I would think carefully before trying to shoo them all off.

Get rid of odd ones in the house by just grabbing them gently and putting them out of the window (they are entirely harmless). Or just swat them if you want. In the garden, they do no harm, but their larvae, called leatherjackets, do, particularly affecting lawns by eating the roots of the grass. Chemical and biological treatments are possible, look for lawn care products.
