Well, if we could get the Earth to spin faster on its axis, the centrifugal force created would fling us off of the planet.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about this. A gravity insulator or shield would be a very nice thing to have.

Imagine you have one and do thought experiments about what it would mean. Most of those experiments end up violating the Equivalence Principle between gravitational force and acceleration. If you're in a closed box and can't look out, you can't tell whether the force you feel is from gravity or from the box being accelerated, say by a rocket.

Newtonian gravitational force F = -GMm/r^2 is a function of the two masses and the distance between them, and absolutely nothing else. By this, the gravitational force between the two bodies exists no matter what else you do.

General Relativity considers spacetime warped in any region near matter. It's hard to imagine a way to cheat the shape of spacetime.

Meanwhile, science hasn't given up studying gravity. And I haven't given up thinking about gravity insulators.

To be precise, gravity force CAN NOT be controlled, if one understands the correct meaning of the term CONTROL. It is an input from the creator in the form of nature.
We can however, HANDLE and not control gravity. Whatever powers or resources we are provided with can put to use so that the RESULTANT EFFECT of our internal forces and the gravity becomes as desired. This is a philosophical question dealing with a technical matter, however. If I may give another analogy, we can not change fluid dynamics (principles) but can HANDLE / TACKLE it by using our own propulsive force if any available. Just as the human beings are able to design artificially intelligent devices (robots etc.) providing for manual intervention, it is quite sensible to perceive (through our sixth sense) that we too may be creations of a superior intelligence provided with some autonomy but with divine interventions incorporated, so that even our actions are subject to the sanction of the creator, which we may not be aware of.

This question has really stirred many.

Let me also jump in the fray and come out with "ideas"-- just out of hat. After all, since every body knows that at least today this is not possible, only wild ideas are invited and expected.

Einstein made us look at the Gravity from quite a different angle. Keeping in the same line, to counteract gravity, it will take:

"Creat" mass in opposite direction at an equal distance and in equal quantity. This is in principle. You may "creat" more mass at a greater distance or vice versa. Now to creat mass you have to convert energy, by getting it from somewhere, into mass. So, pocket a few stars to give you necessary energy. Of course, you must have necessary technology to convert energy - to - mass when required, and mass - to - energy when not required and rapidly enough. Because you will certainly need to destroy the mass you created, once it has served its purpose to counteract the gravity of the object in your mind. All right so far? So if it is so, then we go back to square two from this place, asking why not then distroy the original mass itself which is pulling you? Of course that is your choice, you may need the original mass for some reason.

From here then we go to square no. one, where we actually started. Let us go back to 17th (or is it 18th?) century, when philosophers told us. You can only "change". You can not creat or destroy "totally". And further they said, you can not "change' with 100% effeciency. For the Change also, you need to pay. Have I lost you? No? Fine.

So, very philosophically it boils down to simple thing. Yes, you can counter to gravity and very well in a number of ways. Just now the chappies are giving speed more than the escape velocity. Tomorrow, may be there will be some other technique. But all the same, take it very clearly that, the energy required to counter act gravity will always remain much much more than the original force. This is sheer thermodynamics, the old villager's comman sense.

So, boys, don't "dream". Don't dream flying weight-less in the sky or in the galaxy. Let us remain happily in square 1

In physics, gravitation or gravity is the tendency of objects with mass to accelerate toward each other. Gravitation is one of the four fundamental interactions in nature, the other three being the electromagnetic force, the weak nuclear force, and the strong nuclear force. Gravitation is the weakest of these interactions, but acts over great distances and is always attractive. In classical mechanics, gravitation arises out of the force of gravity (which is often used as a synonym for gravitation). In general relativity, gravitation arises out of spacetime being curved by the presence of mass, and is not a force. In quantum gravity theories, either the graviton is the postulated carrier of the gravitational force[1], or time-space itself is envisioned as discrete in nature, or both.

The gravitational attraction of the earth endows objects with weight and causes them to fall to the ground when dropped (the earth also moves toward the object, but only by an infinitesimal amount). Moreover, gravitation is the reason for the very existence of the earth, the sun, and other celestial bodies; without it matter would not have coalesced into these bodies and life as we know it would not exist. Gravitation is also responsible for keeping the earth and the other planets in their orbits around the sun, the moon in its orbit around the earth, for the formation of tides, and for various other natural phenomena that we observe.

Gravity is an attractive force between two particles. To control gravity you would need to build a shield that gravity cannot pass through. Ideally, a variable shield so you can control the amount of force that passes. The gravity shield will allow cool stuff like levitation, air cars and massive space ships.

I think we will achieve this level of technology about the same time we get force field technology. i.e. quite a while yet. Probably not in our lifetimes.

Or you could just buy one of my Anti-Gravity belts. $999.95

Exert a repulsive force which equals the gravity i.e. 9.147 m/s with the help of a strong electromagnet.
Suppose, you have designed a car then apply a repulsive force, which equals the gravity, but consider the weight of car and the people sitting in it.
Mechanism for creation of a magnetic feild will be just like a magnetic bullet train, but don't use iron below the car.

I do not believe that gravity force can be controlled. But at the same time i am fully convinced that if you apply any other force which can act against the gravity then the impact of the gravity can be reduced or changed.I think most of the people know the fact that such conditions were being created to give experience to the persons who were supposed to go to moon.

As per Classical Mechanics theory, gravitation is a force which is due to the mass in the body. This means every matter have gravitational force of its own depending on its mass. Earth's gravitational force is called gravity.
So if we want to control the gravity, we have to control the mass of Earth. Controlling the mass of Earth can be done with increasing the speed of Earth. As per Theory of Relativity, mass decreases with the increase in the speed of the body, provided speed should be comparable to that of the light which is 3.0e+08 m/s.

It's too immature to say that our great scientists did not solve the problem.I think Archimedis has over come this force by making the water to flow up.First we have to read all such articles.A couple of months back a scientist by name Balsankar has demonstrated in Panaji making his own hair stand. This is nothing but Overcoming the gravitational force by mental force.Human brain has got enormous powers and you can see in old articles persons lifting things at will without touching them

The equation for a gravitational field is part of the physics trilogy. They are, E = mc2, m = E/c2, and c2 = E/m. The last is that for a field of time (c) or a gravitational field - they are the same. The energy here is that of the heat energy contained within a mass. As the heat energy increases so, also, does the gravitational field. Were a planet the size and mass as ours to have no heat energy within it, it would have no gravitational field. There is a short writing at http://360.yahoo.com/noddarc entitled "Gravitational Experiments" that would be of interest. The graphic showing its setup was originally much larger, but has been reduced.
