I want to get a book that helps me get a divorce in California. I cannot afford an attorney so I'm going to have to do it all myself. If someone knows of a book that helped them do all of the paperwork that would be great.

i am actually helping out a family member do their own divorce as well.
go to your courthouse website. they have a self help site that will walk you through it yourself.
if you and your husband are splitting with no property and no kids, its simple and clean.
if you have kids and no property it make take alot of time. and you have to settle everything with court as far as custody and visitation goes. but you can get the divorce done in less time meanwhile.
if you have kids and property, you are looking at needing an attorney unless the two of you can agree on everything.
do keep in mind, courts do have free legal aids to help you with the paperwork. you just have to be there at 5:00am to get helped before the end of the day because they do have a cut off time.
also another thing to consider, is that you can request the court that your spouse be made to pay all of your legal fees (or a portion) for the divorce.
best advice....read all the documents at least ten times. each document will lead you to another with which you need to fill out. it will also tell you what you need to do.

I got my divorce book and papers from the library!! Yes there is a book depends on what state you live in! Not everyone nowadays have to pay a lawyer!! YEAH! I didnt and my divorce only cost me 30 dollars!! Good luck! Or try a paralegal! They are awesome to help with court dates, and answering questions you need help with!

I know of no such book. However, there is a book on how not to get a divorce. You might find this one interesting
