The genuine companies don't ask you to pay anything up front. It's a lot of work for very little money. The forms you have to fill out after the shop are very detailed and you have to rely on memory as you obviously can't take notes as you go along. The company I worked for that paid the best, only paid about £15.00 for a full day's work, and you might only have an assignment every couple of weeks. By the time you pay tax on it - not worth it. You'd earn more stacking shelves in Tesco, and you wouldn't have to worry about doing your own taxes.

I have been a mystery shopper for a few different companies. It does sound great but its not really easy money. You need to visit the stores, work to a strict brief and remember loads. When you are done there are usually an incredible amount of forms to complete. If you persevere with it you can work your way up to the big earning jobs but you will start from the bottom on minging errands which are brain numbingly boring. One of the highlights of my mystery shopping career was checking out automatic photo machines in several branches of Boots Chemists.

Yes, a friend and I were both Mystery Shoppers. NEVER pay to sign up to be a Mystery Shopper! We both had to pay up front, but were reimbursed when we sent in our receipts and reports (we emailed them). We did exit questionnaires at home improvement stores (that paid $40. and took an hour and a half), shopped at stores, ate fast food (like Whatta Burger and McDonald's), that paid $8.00 plus food reimbursement and shopped at electronics stores. It's interesting, and fun for the first year or so, but I gained 20 pounds, so quit and now eat healthier!

It was fun, but for the most part of my job was to apprehend shoplifters than harrass employees. It's not really a scam, but more to save on insurance premiums where I worked. Can't say the same thing about other mystery shopper programs though.

I was a mystery shopper for the Arcadia group - that's the one with Dorothy Perkins and Burton in it. I didn't pay them they paid me. I had to go in and spend five pounds on something and they sent me £10 cash in the post once I had completed a questionnaire. It was a fun experience, but you're never going to make a great deal of money from it. I would suggest you only do it for a company that you usually spend money with.

I used to do mystery shopping before i moved to another state. I didn't have to pay anything up front and it was not a scam at all!! My mother currently does it and loves it. She also didn't pay anything up front. If it is a reputable place they wouldn't ask you to pay anything first. Would you pay before starting for any other job you were offered?

Yeah just be careful as it probably is. Most retail stores have their own mystery shopper (someone who works in a high up dept. for them) to do this. I remember serving the mystery customer when i worked in an outdoor store when i was student. He was dressed head to toe in the shop's clothes stupidly and a monkey could have spotted him a mile away! Lol. I was extra nice to him of course!

This is currently one of the biggest scams running. I would beware of anything that makes you put money down up front. Have you ever heard of another job asking you to pay them? I would be careful. I am sure there are reputable companies that do this. Research those out.

i didn't pay up front to be a mystery shopping
Last month the most I could make from a assigment was $20.00 plus $4.00 food at a fast food place.. I earned $60.00 + food
That one was ok
the others they are offering this month are very far away ( at least 45 minutes away)
I work full time and have a limited time schedule
These jobs are for someone who wants to earn " extra " money. not make it a career
