No I seriously doubt that they are "concerned" for the smoker..It does mean more money to fund their childrens educations,less tax on alcohol,& give a politician a raise in pay...*cough*

It won't cure nicotine addiction. The addiction will still be there. But the cost of feeding that addiction might lead some people to quit smoking. If they can't afford to keep buying cigarettes, maybe they will stop smoking... or find another way to get cigarettes (black market) or to switch brands to a cheaper smoke.

Taxes should be higher on tobacco products to counterbalance the rising costs of healthcare associated with tobacco causing illnesses. (ie. lung cancer)
