it really depends alot on the make and year of the car , my old ford has an alternator that costs about 47 bucks ..........my newer van the alternator cost is 456.00 just for the part .......but labor wise you are looking at about an hour maybe an hour and a half at whatever the going rate for labor is at that particular shop .........a job like this could be about 175.00 but have seen it be 600.00 also ...........it really depends on the part .......you can call pep boys , grand auto , kregan , or auto zone ..give them the year and make of the car and ask them how much an alternator is ,this will give you a real good idea of what you are facing ,

You should expext to spend between $125 and $175 on the part at an automotive repair shop. They will probably charge between 1.0 - 1.5 hours to replace it so anywhere from $65 - $150. My shop would charge @225 out the door. Good luck

a alternator can cost anything from £45 to 100s of pounds what make of car is it for ?

a 1971 chevy truck is 35 dollars for , an alternator and labor to put it on...and 2200 dollars for a 2007 cadillac.
you must think all cars are the same....WRONG!!!
