other than absolute faith?

Don't even know that absolute faith is particularly good for the soul. Gardening is great on a purely individual level. I think volunteering one's time and resources to worthy causes is just as good. Mowing for a neighbor who can't maintain her yard, leading a Girl Scout or Boy Scout troop, volunteering time in an elementary school or library, helping build a Habitat house...there are hundreds of ways to soothe one's own spirit and make the world more habitable.

I love gardening, am addicted to gardening - I garden therefore I am. Sometimes gardening (depending on when and what needs to be done) is a pain in the butt, but overall it is my favorite passion. It is a way to be creative which I find very fulfilling. I love to see the colors and forms in the garden, usually love taking care of it, planning, planting, weeding, watering, fertilizing, pruning, etc. There are so many elements of gardening and most of them are very pleasing to my soul. Enjoying nature and things of beauty are usually soul satisfying - to me, at least. Family can give pretty much the same experiences, I find.

Hmmm, I think I'm about the luckiest woman on earth, because I LOVE
my garden (and it is soul-soothing - working or just sitting in it of an evening brings me joy)
my job (I am a teacher)
and my husband (six-foot-four, black hair, slender, clever, and, above all, the kindest man on earth)
So, I'd have to say that, while gardening is fantastic for the soul, it is only 1/3 of the fantastic-ness I experience.
