If the illness has or will keep her off work for at least a year, or will keep her of permanently. SSI will always turn you down the first time, even say there is some kind of work that she could do, the important thing is to appeal this immediately. Getting Breast cancer she probably went into depression as well, this must be documented too.. Along with both, she will get it, just have to fight for it. I wish her the best healing and strength to overcome her fears and she be healed. But I don't see her going back to work within a year, so go ahead and file anyway. Do your research, there is allot of it on the internet. If you feel safer with a disability attorney, hire one. They don't charge you until they pay then the fee is automatically taken out. The forms will drive you nuts and allot of them will be sent, over and over, and they ask the same thing differently allot. Keep records of everything, and when they send her to the doctor they want her to see, bring in all the ct and x rays and records of proof, because believe me, they say that the doctor will have everything, but the disability doctor will have nothing! They will try to deny her. So don't get discouraged. God Bless and A prayer is said for her.

The only way to answer that is for your wife to apply. If she is fully disabled and cannot work, she may be eligible for SSI. But, it usually has to be considered a permanent condition. In your wife's case, if she is able to continue to work, except for short periods off for treatment and recovery, she will not be eligible. If she's a stay at home mom/homemaker, she probably will not be able to qualify. Qualifying for SSI is more iffy with a condition like cancer than other debilitating ones. People with cancer often can continue working and doing what most people do for a long period of time, even when its terminal. In the early stages, it is difficult to claim a disability. Sadly, in later stages, the person may not have enough time to qualify.
If your wife worked enough quarters, she should first apply for Social Security Disability. Should she recieve that, and the disability income not reach the maximum level allowed by SSI, she can then apply for SSI. In some cases, she may receive very much money from SSI if also receiving disability, but she will receive Medicaid and be able to obtain treatment at no or much lower costs than with Medicare.

Yes, If she is on medications that cause weakness and her to be tired all the time. If she is going through kimotherapy then she can diffently get S.S.I.. If she has worked for more than ten years, she might be able disability. Disability is alot better and more of a benefit than S.S.I.. Plus if she was to get disability if others gave money to her, no matter what the price, it is considered a gift. If she cannot work though then she better not recieve money for working. Example: cleaning houses, mowing lawns, baby sitting, and so on. The law says if you are capable of doing these things then you are capable of getting a job. No matter what your disability is. I know this, because I get S.S.I..

The SSI is available only in case of permanent disability where one is unable to work in future. But in this case, after removal of the breasts, she will be a normal person and will work normally.

SSI is usually paid out when someone is retired or medically/physically unable to work any longer. If the breast cancer is curable and she is able to work they would not give her benefits now.

Get onto the social security website. Fair warning though. It's a complicated website. You can also call the social security system. You can get the phone number on the s.s. website. Good luck to your wife.
