From your example, it seems like you're looking for a browser-based MMO, right? Unfortunately, there aren't a lot out there that are browser-based, but there are a few.

The most popular one I can think of off-hand is Runescape. Honestly, I didn't like that game at all, but it might be something worth trying. You don't have to download anything, and you can play with lots of other people. The graphics and gameplay are pretty poor, though.

Adventure Quest and Dragon Fable are more solo oriented, but they can still be pretty fun. Again, you don't have to download anything.

If you're willing to download something, you can always try out MapleStory, Knight Online, or Silkroad Online (site's down, though, I think). Those are MMORPGs that are completely free to play, but unfortunately, may require a lot of time in order to level your character up.

You may also want to consider trying a MUD (Multi-User Dungeon). It's like a little DOS client where you connect to different servers and play there. There usually aren't any graphics (ASCII art aside), but there are lots of people to interact with. The best part is, you can pick a server that's fantasy-based, modern, or even futuristic (just FYI, there was a Resident Evil server, but I don't think it's online anymore). If you do try this, I'd suggest the Portal client, although there are others to choose from.

If none of these work for you, then consider looking through FreeMMORPGList.com. They've got a lot of games listed.

Good luck to you!

MSN has some good games. You can even earn badges now (much like the xbox 360's acheivements) but they dont really count for anything except bragging rights.
